| Breeding one litter a year and sometimes skipping a year and primarily breeding for myself......no profit......everything goes back into the dogs and exhibiting them.

You've already been given great advice so I won't add to it. I would say that it is your cousin that should be asking/researching. The majority of the risks/responsibilities are with the owner of the female, though the male's owner certainly shares in them. While there are many uneventful whelps, you only need to scroll back through this forum to see the many heartbreaking things that can and do happen, even with experienced breeders. Breeding Yorkies can be immensely fulfilling but it is not a casual endeavor. As a practical matter, with your cousin's girl being 3 years already, she would likely be too old to consider breeding by the time you both have enough background to competently undertake a mating.

| I'm glad your baby has found a compatible playmate. They can be tempermental little things! I have 3 breeding females and 2 males. All I can say is - do your research. Google breeding tips and read till your eyes hurt. It is dangerous for the small females and I have had litters with 4 and 2 pups. Strangely enough, the litters with 2 were 1 of each and the litter of 4 was two of each. If you do breed, get to know your vet and put money aside for emergencies. Stock up on supplies and plan on spending practically 24/7 with her from at least day 55 till she has her pups. Mine want to be as close to me as possible and have delivered on my lap. Its got to be all about them! Good luck! |
