What kind of health guarantee do you offer? I didn't see that on your site. Forgive me if I just missed it.

i give a small health warranty
with an additive that if something arises ill do my best to help and if there is a death i give 50% off another puppy..

out of my 5 litters one puppy has passed...(from the mix) and i try to find out the details and even offered them the full price back towards another puppy but they never responded

So many of them do not even research the breed...they see what they think they want...then, they take it home and see that it is a dog. .. a live one that barks, pees and poops....and not when they want it to. :(

So true, so true!!! I wish more people would take the time to research the right breed for their home and environment and not want the flavor of the month....
I've had people trash talk me because I wouldn't place one of my puppies with them because they had 5 year old twins and an 8 year old...that was funny...and then I had one trash talk me because I wouldn't give them open registration said it was their right to decide if they wanted to spay or neuter and I said well NOT it's my pup now and if you can't agree with that you ain't gonna have my pup!!!

i wont say i am as strict..which i know is not always the best policy...and i know accidents can happen to the best of homes. but i know how i would feel if i wasnt ALLOWED a yorkie because of my kids. i dont discriminate against homes with kids...but if they are referencing the child as the care giver, if they are making statements about this is a gift for my child..those are no nos and i tell them why. if someone wants to surprise someone with a puppy thats a no no for me. if someone is funny about weights, specifically talking teacup, or under 5lbs they are no nos. if they have new babies on the way, separations pending, live with parents, school and work..these are no nos...


i always recommend yt, and researching the breed. i question them to see what they know.

i feel like you have to feel the people out, talk to them. if you listen and let them talk..you'll get all the information you need

I will not say that a person is not allowed.....just not allowed to have one that I have invested the time and money in to save.

Again, I am all about the pup, not the person.

IF I find a home well suited for a pup, it makes the person happy. I believe that when you try to please people, then the pup becomes secondary and from my experience that is often bad news for the pup.

I would say that the pom mix probably had problems because she was bred with an 11 pound male. Your Gidget is 10 lbs which is in my opinion to big to breed and that combined with her recent health scares would make it a wise decision to spay her. I do have a question though. You state that your dogs are all raised as part of the family. Does that mean that you will keep Gidget, the pom mix, the older female, the new stud, the old 8 lb stud and still aquire a couple more breeding females or are you going to rehome the ones that you no longer use for breeding? To me that would mean that they are not part of the family if they are only temporary pets. I ask because you talked about not wanting a bunch of dogs. I have 4 and it is ALOT of work. I also have 3 young children. I cannot imagine having 7 or more dogs but I also do not believe in rehoming them after they are used for breeding. To me it is just as cruel as the people who say "I need to rehome my 7 yr old dog, I got him at 7 wks but I just do not have time for him anymore" JMO

I won't comment on the weight of the male/standard/breeding mixes, but I highly disagree with this, maybe it's not right for you but many reputable breeders do rehome their retired breeders. I think it is the responsible thing to do. If you keep all of them you become a hoarder, or if you only limit yourself to a certain amount you will box yourself in and eventually have nobody to breed until your retired babies pass away of old age. Sometimes you may have one or two that you just can never give up, and they remain with you as your pet, but in general I think it's great to rehome a retired dog, especially if they go to a home where they are the only dog or one of two dogs and can get more attention. Most of the time they adapt well. Just because you rehome retired breeding dogs does not mean they can't be family raised and just as loved. I think this comment was a little rude and inappropriate and I don't understand why you are naming all of her dogs, very unnecessary and off topic. All the other advice was great and this has been a very information thread that the OP has been able to grow and learn from...:)

I agree with what you said 100% but she is entitled to her opinon on rehoming...it's not an easy thing to do with retired breeders but it does have to be done. Those that aren't into the showing and breeding aspect of this wonderful endeavor sometimes doesn't understand but maybe if "we" stay kind and try to be senstive to their opinion on this topic maybe we can show them rehoming retired breeders is in the best interest of the dog. I know I have only rehomed one retired show/breeding bitch and it was the hardest thing I had to do but I know she's in the best hands! I have 5 pet yorkies most have been shown not used in my breeding program except Radar (which will NEVER leave my house) but I know in the future it will have to be done...not easy :(

i have had the yorkie pom for a long time and she will never leave nor will gidget. i do not have the other males ..i rehomed them for several reasons...i only have 3

and yes i do beleive in rehoming after retirement BUT gidget and little girl have been here from the start and will stay here,

i am also not comfortable breeding 5-6lbs dogs i like the females to be husky and the males to be smaller..

and i do not believe the bigger male contributed to the problems she has.

i really dont think this post was supposed to be questioning my breeding traits. this post i requested information from owners who have had this particular experience but it seems that there will always be others who want to pipe in on something different.

everyone does their breeding a little different

people could also say that you having 3 kids shouldnt have yorkies because the risk is so high..but yet you have them and they are complete happy and healthy right?

when you dont know the details you shouldnt comment..i wanted to added that its uncomfortable when someone questions your life style and the only reason i made the statement above to make a point

i think i have made the comment that i need to update my site

i do not have tanner nor do i have scrappy..i got them with the intentions of breeding but you get what you pay for. they were to large in the end. i wanted to so be in the standard so i rehomed them to great homes that i talk to on a frequent basis.

i have Gidget a yorkie
little girl a yorkie pom
teddy a yorkie

i do not like the fact that i feel i need to keep defending my self to certain posters.. there are some on here that are long timers who are being truthful and couretous and others that are making random comments that dont pertain to the orginal posting.

Everyone does do breeding a little different but we all should be breeding to one common goal and that is to better the breed not destroy it with breeding poor quality even if on accident....We are here to better educate and it seems you do listen somewhat so we keep trying to convince you to open your mind to a better way of breeding if you are going to continue.
Breeding yorkies is something that should be like bearing children, doing what's best for the pup, mom ect....if something isn't right you fix it. I will say this some humans shouldn't breed either like drug addicts ect... they have trained professionals to try and convince those people to get their act together as we as yorkies breeders try and do the same :)
