I wasn't going to post either but I cannot agree with the breeding of mixed breed dogs just because you like to breed. Maybe, if you like whelping or just having puppies around, perhaps your local humane society or rescue organization may be looking for foster moms for a girl that is already pregnant or already has a litter. What's done is done, but IMO there is no point in adding to pet over population.

How do you know she's in no pain. If you are familiar with canine behavior, they hide their pain very well, they do not want to sucumb to the other dogs. And they will take her down if they know she is ill.


You also mentioned the above......and of course you mentioned something about rescue not placing dogs in homes with children, I don't either.......the above is one of the reasons why.

You are so right Mary - as a vet tech before, I know of this. Each vet has their own interest and expertise. You have to check and ask them what they specialize in. Our babies cannot speak for themselves, all they have is us to speak for them and get action when needed to help them.

And no - she did not come into heat because of the other girls. Something is up with her health.

Usually a girl will bring another girl into heat if they are somewhat on the same cycle......

Even if one studies, genetics, breeding and whelping....there is more to study; canine behavior, training, grooming.....etc.

I don't place with small children either and I believe if you breed you shouldn't have small children. Breeding and having young children in my opinion does NOT go hand in hand. Raising children is a full time job with extra activities going on you don't have time to raise litters. Kids should always come before raising puppies IMHO....raise your kids first and then if you want to breed for the betterment of the breed wait till the children are grown!!!

Yep, know this, but she stated that she was just in heat 4 months ago. So going by that, I would say not normal to go into heat again so soon. All my 4 girls came into heat back in Nov. all at the same time, by a few days apart. My poor boys - so I know how girls can bring one another in. I am so glad it is over with. I keep my boys seperate during those times, as not to have an accident. They are in sperate parts of the house, but the boys still know. My casanovas! LOL

Breeding is not my favorite thing to do. I do it very sparingly, because I hate that my decision may cause my girls difficulties. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see those contractions going through my girls.....their little bodies stretching and pushing.....

I agree with coming into season so soon....there is definately something wrong.

my dogs are not crated all the time..now that there are 2 females in heat that i do not want to breed they take turns in the crate during the day..ones out for about 2 hours the other is up in the crate then at night as always the sleep in their crates..when no one is in heat they have run of the house during the day and crated in my bedroom at night.

no i am not breeding the mix now. due to health and safety. who can not be spayed because of her health..BUT i did breed her 2 times. and i know that akc and other ppl do not like the mixes but i do and so do other people. i had no problem placing them before they were born. i am still asked for puppies...


i know that the 6 month old is a no no..i was surprised she looked pregnant but the false part made since with his age. akc wouldnt have been involved since the female is not akc.

i had a mistake with the yorkiepom 2 or 3 years ago
and now while trying to keep the yorkies parted my son let them out..still my fault but still an accident i dont think it makes me irresponsible. i was in one room washing dishes and my oldest tells me the youngest let them out and they were stuck...

yes i have kids but im home all day and i dont think i should give up what i love because of kids. this is my hobby and joy. i dont do it for anyone else. if my pet is in jeoparody then i will retire her and start anew. but that hasnt been established yet and i dont want her to breed until the next heat if its determinded safe.

but i will be talking to the vet and will discuss whats best for her. at this time their advice was to wait...but i will talk further with them

Thanks Mary! I am with you too - I hate the breeding part. If I could - I would never breed. I lost my last litter and it tore me to pieces. They were born too soon. They tried to hold on, but lost them one by one and I had one of my mentors (an expert) help me keep them going. But in the end, they were not ready for the world. I am sooo thankful my moma, my first champion, made it fine. She so missed her babies though and looked for them for days after they were gone. I cried for her pain. It was so sad. I hate it! Reason I do not breed often either.

Donna - I agree with you - just from my own experience. Hey, and I tried it, since I was an expert with yorkies before my kids came. I thought I could handle it! Wrong! I could not do it either in the end. So I took a break and now that my kids are all grown, I returned to my yorkies. For the betterment of the breed/dogs, I placed my dogs first always and myself last.

I lost 2 one of my last litters......born prematurely too.....I was able to save a boy and girl......But, since it was the first time it happened to me.....I was tore up inside.......Their mother is due to be spade, as this was her 2nd premature litter.....I'm not gonna chance it again.

Hopefully it was January 2008 as this dog's birthday is September 2006 according to the website, there seems to be a LOT of confusion here.

and thats your right..i dont think its fair to restrict families..thats one reason why i breed and dont have that restriction ( i know tones can be taken incorrectly on here so i wanted to add that i meant this in a nice agree to disagree way =)
