| My box is exactly like yours except it is open a little more. Should I make one that is more closed off? I put her in my master bathroom, which is the most secluded area of my house. She moved the pups one time but has not hurt the last two. I have been leaving her alone other then to check on her and give her food and water. I am really thinking maybe she sensed something was wrong with the smaller pup that she killed. You just never can tell about a mother dog's instinct. I just didn't want her hurting the other two because I would feel terrible if I let anything happen to them and she has already lost two. I will keep everyone updated on how they do, but so far so good. |

Some nervious moms don't like other dogs around and will try to hide or kill the babies if they feel threatened. Just keep all dogs away from her and the babies. If she seem comfortable in what she is in now and the pups seem warm then I would leave her be. You can drape a sheet or blanket over part of the hole to close it up more. If you see mom panting to much it mean she is to warm. Remove the sheet or blanket so she can get more air. Moms for the first few weeks are very protective about their babies so leaving her alone for now might be a good idea. Just quick peek to see babies are OK but I wouldn't be handling them to much until she get through her over protective stage. Good luck with the other 2 babies. | |
