Congratulations Zane on your lovely golden litter(s)! Tammy the pups are beautiful :-) Looking forward to many photo updates on all of these pups. It sure was a busy night ... lots of good things happening in this thread. |
[QUOTE=TammyJM;2969851] Cinnamon: 3.7 (birth weight-3.4) Cadbury: 4.8 (birth weight-4.4) Cupcake: 4.2 (birth weight-4.1) I didn't supplement in the night....but I did once before bed. Livi's milk has continued to come in. I will say that I am VERY worried over Cadbury. :( QUOTE] Looking at those weights I'd say you have almost nothing to worry about. Cadbury gained the most. Usually I see a .1 increase the first night but he gained .4 which is great. Just make sure you weigh all of them a few times throughout the day and that they all maintain or gain weight. If any of them drop then suppliment them all once and let mom build up milk. It looks like you won't need to though.:D |
Tammy, your babies are beautiful. I hope that everyone else has a safe and fast whelp. |
Livi pants NONSTOP....no matter what she is doing. Should she be doing this so much? Also, I took her temp and it is at 102.3 (doesn't seem overly high, but the panting concerns me). Is this hormonal and also being in a hot room with her babies?? I started a thread in the nursery forum for my new babies. :D I took some more this morning and couldn't resist posting them. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yt-...ml#post2970108 Tammy |
how hot is the room you have her in? |

If the room is hotter than 75 she is probably having a hard time regulating her body temp. |

What setting do you all typically use for your puppies (heating pad setting is what I am talking about)? I have a blanket over it and have it set on medium because low never sems to warm through the blanket...but am I dong this wrong, too? :( |
CONGRATS to all new puppy moms and dads. Can't wait to watch your babies grow. |

1 Attachment(s) I keep my heating pad in low and under half of the whelping box only, I keep the room temperature at 75 degrees all the time. I also keep a blaket over the whelping box to keep the warm in.I also keep an area rug under the whelping box to keep the cold from the floor to touch the bottom of the box. here's a picture of my setup. I'm still hoping, but won't be surprised if she doesn't have any. I hope she doesn't have to deliver still borns. that was so hard on her. |

But becareful Tammy, as a small inclosed room will get much hotter on the 75 degree setting then an open floor plan like the living room and kitchen. If the room is that warm..you probably don't even need a heating pad, since moms body heat and the warm room will be enough to keep the babies toasty. Even on low...the heating blanket will warm the pups up just fine, especially with mom to cuddle. If you put your hand under Livi, and the pups after they have been on the low setting pad for a little bit...you will see how warm it truly is for those laying on top of it. I use to think the low setting was not warm enough until I found my pups panting and crying because the med setting was much to hot. |

:( I also turned the heating pad to low. Thanks guys! |
Livi's panting has decreased some and her temp has as well now. Thanks again! I forgot to share their faces...here's a post where you can see why I find them so kissable! ;) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/2970363-post25.html |
Congratulations to all the new puppies. They are all just beautiful. We are expecting any day now. Was wondering Abby looks like she lost her plug today. How soon after that do they ususally go into labor? this is the first time I have noticed the plug. Her temp. is 99.4, but she is pacing and seems uncomfortable, but not having any contractions. |

Thanks you. It may be a long night. Abby just finished her dinner, but know that doesn't usually mean a whole lot. Some girls won't eat before having puppies and others will. I am getting excited.:D |

Oh, and Livi was eating right up until pushing...in fact, she continued eating whelping pudding in between delivering puppies....she never really stopped eating, even after having them, she wanted to eat nonstop. |
How soon do you make your whelping pudding before their delivery? I keep thinking that I don't want to make it too soon and yet want it to be ready when she needs it. |

best of luck with your girl, have a safe and fast whelping Carmen in nj |
Now the puppies are nursing and doing great, but Livi started throwing up about an hour ago and it was several times....every bit of what she had eaten all day! After this, she tried to drink and then threw that up too. I now know what she was panting excessively today...her tummy was hurting. Once she threw up, she immediately stopped pantng. Now, problem is, she will NOT take any food whatsoever!!! She had been doing so good with eating and now she won't touch anything that we offer to her. Her puppies are a little over 24 hours old and their weights are: Cinnamon: 4.1 (birth weight-3.4oz.) Cadbury: 5.1 (birth weight-4.4) Cupcake: 4.6 (birth weight-4.1) I am concerned about Livi! |
I would just leave some food out for her & she will eat when she is feeling better they are so smart & know how to take care of themselves hope she is feeling better soon |
