The puppy I have been discussing with Judy will be in the 4lb range. All her smaller dogs she sends as pet's only.:p

I didn't think the males size mattered for breeding? I believe the OP is purchasing a male.

Can someone clarify for me what size (both male and female) is OK for breeding? I have NO interest in breeding, I'm just curious. I thought the female had to be 5 lbs, and the male it didn't matter. Now I'm wondering if a 4 lb female is actually OK, and if the male is suppose to be a certain size too. It's all so confusing. :confused:

One more thing, this is just my opinion but....I don't think there is anything wrong with breeding tiny yorkies if it is done safely. Some of us do prefer the little ones. :)

I've never heard of this person. But, prices are a bit high. I know of other very well known Canadian breeder/exhibitors that breed to standard.....Pastoral/Lorraine Hayes; NikNac/Laurie Hunter; Durrer/Betty Anne Durrer; as well as others that have been breeding and showing for years and their prices for their dogs are no where near the prices quoted.

Mmmm too a look at the web site. Baby Doll Faces (highly distasteful phrase and not acceptable by the CYC or CKC). Though your dogs do have a quality of cuteness, if one knows the standard; your pups heads are incorrect.

There is more to breeding a male and female than just weight, it's a bit more complex than that......But, no 4 pounds is not ok to breed. Most reputable breeders prefer that their females be between 5 1/2 and 7 pounds. Breeding yorkies is not for the faint at heart. It comes with a whole set of problems, so why buy more by breeding small.

Look at her dogs heads.....doll face, not healthy looking.....This breeder is advertising herself as a show breeder, that's scary! Worse yet taking advantage of someone that is new.......Tsk, Tsk!

I still think that price is ridiculous.

I have a 6 lb and a 7 lb Yorkie and everyone comments on how tiny they are. I can not imagine a 2 or 3 lb Yorkie YIKES! I'd be afraid to move in my house!

And what does a pedigree matter when people want them as pets. They are going to spay/neuter them to care from them as their children. If you empty their bank account because of your own selfishness how are they going to have any money to put into caring for raising and spaying/neutering their puppy?

Yes they are gorgeous but to point out faults in other peoples beloved Yorkies because they dislike your price range I think says a lot about you. I would not buy a Yorkie from you because not only are you ripping people off and producing unhealthy TINY puppies but if you can not take criticism which you should be able to being a breeder, I don't think your someone I'd want to associate with anyway.

And shame on you for taking advantage of people and their hard earned money.

To th OP:
I would recommend to find a better breeder with realistic prices that really do what is the best for their puppies and for them to find good homes. Not one that only cares about the money.

Thank you for your response. I do understand that there is much more to breeding than just weight. I just thought that I remembered reading that a Yorkie should be 5+ lbs to breed. I do like the little ones, but not TOO little that it is unhealthy for them. The best interest should always be in favour of the Yorkie. :thumbup:

I think that most everyone loves the Tinies.....they grab your heart, but that doesn't mean that breeding them is the right thing to do. Those that do are breeding to fulfill a buyers market and sell them for more money. My goodness I have a 2.8 wee girl that is 4 months of age....I'm holding onto her, not because I want her for myself (well I am hoping she'll grow) but, because I don't want to sell heartache.

I believe the OP is looking for full registration though. I am "guessing", correct me if I am wrong, (haha like someone wont:p) but I don't think they sell with full registration.

You're probably right.....and that's my point exactly. There are those that are in a hurry and will go to the first person that will sell on open. Not a reputable breeder in my book. I've said it time and time again, if a breeder sells you a dog on open without knowing you, run the other way. These breeders are just out for $$$$ and have no concern for their dogs.......goes without saying on this breeder, breeding tinies.

I was looking at Durrer Yorkshire Terriers website, BEAUTIFUL yorkies. I can't find anything on Pastoral or NikNac Yorkies as far as websites though.

Boy, have I learned alot today. I had never even heard of a hydrocephalic pup before.

I don't think that Pastoral or NikNac have websites, but when I want to do some serious dreaming I love to look at that Durrer site:)

Hydrocephalis is really sad, it is when there is water on the brain and it pushes on the skull I have seen a puppy like this at the vet, it was so small and week with really big (babydoll looking eyes) but couldn't hardly lift its head:(

to OP: I looked through the FC site more after posting, if I were going to start breeding this is not where I personally would select my breeding stock to come from, I don't think that a good breeder should make their main focus size. I would probably try to build a relationship with someone on the referal list for ytca. Good luck in your search for a new baby:)

Pastoral/Lorraine is an old fashioned, old time breeder, doesn't have a website. Doesn't really have to, people are clamering for her dogs.

Laurie Hunter does have a website, hard to find.......her line does have Pastoral.

Very few breeder/exhibitor breeders do have websites and if they do it's to show case their accomplishments.

There are many pups from this breeder here in the US on full reg. Right now TJYorkies have a little boy on puppyfind out of a male from this breeder and her price is only 1500.00. But if you want to purchase for breeding you need to find a reputable mentor who cares about the breed and someone who breeds for the standard and not tiny teacups! :eek:

That's what's so frustrating...all of the really good breeders are very private, and as you said, people are clamering for their dogs. You say their prices are reasonable, but us regular folk have no way of coming into contact with these breeders, let alone purchasing one of their pups (no matter how much we are willing to pay). I'm quite happy with my 2 girls, but for my 3rd Yorkie (that I will get in a year or 2), I wanted a really good quality puppy. It seems impossible though. Phew, that's my vent for the day :rolleyes:

Best way, go to the YTCA website, look them up and give them a call. Most of these breeders want to actually speak with someone rather than just an email. I might add...they are very nice.

Funny you should mention this Tator has Nealstar, Nick'nak, and parkside in his pedagree?

I had wrote a big long reply to all the comments that were said however with this silly computer I lost it all and well I just dont have the time to go into that again...however I do not place my yorkies with breeding rights!!!!There are a few times I have but I have made sure that a very strickt contract was signed stating that no puppies can be placed in breeding homes they all must be placed in pet homes !!! so I just want everyone to know that I am very much against my yorkies getting into the wrong hands!!! and some things that have been stated are just not me !!!

One more thing, My Tator Tot was purchased from a show/breeder however he did not get to even close to the size to be able to show him, but he has many many champions behind him and can produce the same.

He is not available for any outside breeding but only for my use only !

Besides health issues number one thing is to make sure your males are smaller then your females....... and yes I do have a 4lb female but I also have a 2.5lb male that throws very small birth weights I have never had to have a c section with my females.... I do not like the big yorkies this is why I breed to what I like. I do very well in the ring with out the big size as your coats count for most of your points and my yorkies have the gorgous silky coats with alot of other good qualitys behind them.

Thanks, but I'm not sure how far the YTCA site will get me seeing as I live in Canada. There is a Canadian Yorkshire Terrier Association. I don't see many breeders listed there, but I did find Nic Nak Yorkies on the list Main Page @ nicnakyorkies.bravehost.com - A Bravenet.com Hosted Site I guess it's not totally hopeless.

Ah! But, since you breed than you know yorkies aren't bred phenotype to phenotype.......and breeding a smaller male to a larger female is a misnomer.

There are breeders that do have great dogs in their pedigree but, it's what they do with that pedigree, do they know how to breed it. Some do and other's don't.......Nealstar/Thedus Neal is a great breeder, so is Marie/Parkside and Nicnac....all great breeders that know how to breed to standard and improve the breed.
