| new mom doesnt spend time with puppies my 6 lbs yorkie had a c-section 1 week ago giving us 7 puppies.I own the 3lbs male also and they have never breed untill now. This is our first experience with puppies. When we brought them home she was a wonderfull mom.hardly ever left them.yesterday she really slowed down on eating and she has been laying out side of the whelping bed.I have been offering the puppies a milk supplement some times some drink alittle and some times not.Last night my husband gave abbey some puppy milk and this morning shes vomiting up milk.Im just woundering if shes sick or do they sometimes act like that.We weight the babies 2 and 3 times a day and they all have been gaining alittle.after one week they have gained alittle over 1 oz.Is that enough?help please |

| She needs to see a vet or you will lose them all very quickly. |

| I'd get her to the vet ASAP, that's a lot of puppies and they could have depleted her calcium. Very dangerous condition I hope that all is well!

| One ounce in a week is nothing. You need to make sure those puppies are getting enough to eat and, of course, the mom has to go to the Vet. My puppies were very tiny at birth and they gained 3 ounces each in one week. I hope everything is ok. Please keep us advised. Good luck.

| With week old puppies it is common for the mom to not lay with them all the time. Normal healthy weeks old pups that are getting plenty of milk will only nurse about every two hours. As the pups get older the mom will want to spend a little more time away from the pups. Now, as for the mom, she needs to be eating at least 4 to 5 meals a day. What are you feeding her? She need a high quality puppy dry food mixed with some canned food. You can also give her a scrambled egg a day. It is essential that she also get a calcium supplement. I give 1/2 a calcium tablet in the am and 1/2 in the evening. Her last meal should be around 10 p.m. at night. If mom is not eating well or vomiting then I would be very concerned. Please take her temperature. If she is not running a temperature then most likely she is just getting drained from caring for so many pups. It does not sound like the pups are gaining enough so you might need to help supplement the pups. If you have any doubt what so ever about the health of the mom or the pups then please get them to a vet. |

| Carmen, I have quick question about this whelping pudding. Can I substitute honey for the corn syrup? I am allergic to all forms of corn. I cannot smell, touch or eat it. I know the babies could not have honey but it is it ok for the mom?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I had never substitute, but i guess in a pinch I would, all the karo does is add glucose for energy, so yes I would.. hugs, Carmen |
