Help!?!?!?!? New puppy, was told I had a teacup yorkie. Very inexperienced, my first puppy. He was great the first night. But has gone down hill since. Picked him up sunday. Hasn't really been eating. Breeder sent me home with bag a of Eukunaba (Sp) didn't mention to me that he was orginally on puppy chow. Didn't eat, Tuesday, barely ate Wed, took him to vet Yesterday. They checked him and told me that he is only 4 weeks old, seperated from mom too early and that is why I am having problems. He is only 1 pound 2 ozs. I don't know what to do with him. He wont eat the puppy chow. I added water to soften it up since he has no teeth. He just wants to lay around not active at all. Please help. |
go to the store and get some cans of condense goat milk I am told that goats milk is the closest to moms milk for a puppy, don't use the puppy formula can give him diarreah, also get a bottle, that pup needs to eat.. mix the can of milk with a can of water, add some karo syrop, grind some of the puppy food and mixed it, let him lick it from a saucer if not put the milk mixture in a bottle run it under a warm water until is baby feed warm and feed him that. Best of luck.. |
I'm sorry you are going through this! wow 4 weeks only???? Is there any way you can talk to the breeder again? What else did the vet tell you to do? |

Honestly, some breeders should just be scalded for the lack of concern they show for their pups. Anything for a buck....:thumbdown |
The vet really didn't say much, add water to food, give him karo syrup or honey, monitor his eating, they checked him for worms, heart murmur his hearing. all that was normal . no worms. no fever either. When I call the breeder she insist that he is 7 weeks turning 8. she had to back back litters she said so she may be unsure. I don't know. but it is frustrating because i don't know what else to do for him. I will try the goat milk. |

He may be a bit older than 4 weeks since many Yorkies don't have teeth until later but, if he is that young, the meat or canned food may not be a good idea. You can soften some kibble in water or goat's milk and feed that. If he won't eat, you may need to use a syringe (with no needle) or just put it on your finger and get it in his mouth. You have to make sure he eats or you will lose him. |

I think you've got two duplicate threads going. I replied in your other thread. Did you get papers that state his date of birth? How did you find this breeder? |

I found her online. I do have papers, date of birth says 10/16/09 vet seems to think otherwise though |
did you ever meet her in person, or was the pup shipped to you? |
I think Im just going to take him back...i really don't want to though.... |

What registry are the papers from? If they are from anything but the AKC, they aren't worth anything. |

Another thing you can feed him is Whelping Puuding 12 oz of distilled water warmed in the Microwave, disolve 1 envelope of unflavored geletin in the water, add 1 12 oz can of Evaporated Milk 2 Tablespoons of Karo Syrup 2 Tablespoons of Vanila Yogurt 2 well beaten egg yolk. Chill until firm. Spoon feed the pup this mixture or you can syringe feed him. |
thank you for that info. |

Take care of the pups immediate needs, you've got your work cut out for you, but if you have any questions or an emergency, contact your vet and/or ask questions here. We'll do are best to help you keep this pup alive. |

Goodness gracious I don't even know what to say. This lady sounds horrible, Please get that baby some honey at least to get his sugars up, call the woman and tell her you are bringing him to her RIGHT NOW! He needs his mom asap! |

I would just stress that a lethargic puppy is a short step away from a hypoglycemic episode and needs immediate attention. He needs some Nutri-cal or karo to get his blood sugar up and then he needs to eat, whether on his own or if you have to feed him. It really only takes minutes for a pup to go into shock or seizure once they're weak from not eating. |

I've always used honey before I had Nuri cal and I have read that people use it. If you don't have anything else on hand I would use it rather then nothing. |

I hope she is out finding food for him. i don't see how he is still alive if he hasn't eaten since Sunday. |

Well like I said that's what I used before, I must of got the idea from here because I used it for Stormy. Now I always have Nutri cal available. |

Ooops! forgot to mention a probiotic such as Benebac, it can be purchased at PetSmart or Petco. |
This woman needs to be turned in Bad most likely nasty dog breeder out for only the bucks. If she loved her pups this would never have happened. I would call humane society and have her investigated. I bet they find a she has a bunch of different breeds that none are really taken care of. TURN HER IN!!!!!!!! And Save that pup.:camera: |
You can use sugar and water also. Heat it up on the stove and it will thicken. If you don't take him back you need to get some supplies fast, goats milk, beneabac, karo, bottles to feed, heating pad to keep warm under a little box to put him in to keep him warm. sryringes. I like a kids medicine dropper to feed with when they won't take a bottle. I sure hope he is ok! |
This is great advice ~ Use the unflavered pedialyte (this is found in the baby section at walmart or grocery store) AND don't be afraid to use an eye dropper or syringe NO needle :) to get him started. Keep him hydrated and close to you. He is too young and I am sure very scared also,So just keep encouraging him to eat and drink. Please keep us posted ~ |
