Checking on the little puppy this morning.. hugs, Carmen innj |
I was hoping for an update. Iam really concerned for this little guy. And she needs to be reported to the AKC, if she is getting litters of puppies mixed up and giving the wrong puppies she should have her AKC registrations stopped. |
Hope this lil guy made it through the night. just looking for an update .... |
Still No update? This does not look good. |
Much thanks to all of you and all the information you all offered. I went to the petsmart and bought nutracal along with the goats milk. He is eating now thru a syringe and I have him given him Nutracal. Going to see how things go today and tomorrow if no progression I will return him Monday evening. I will keep you all posted. As far as keeping him warm, is it okay to use a blanket, wont smother him right?? or just the heating pad as someone mentioned below. Oh The breeder won't return my calls...the vet requested papers I think he was going to contact her... another thing, does the nutracal cause running poo? |

You can mix baby rice cereal in with the milk, that might help the runny poop. |
Oh and thanks for the update, I'm so slorry that you have to start out this way. If she does not respond to yhour calls, i would definitely colntact the proper aujtholrities. The fact tht she did not have you go to her home to pick him up indicates, to me, that she has something to hide. I'm guessing she won't return your money either. I would go with just the heating pad under his bed, not in the bed. only put it under half of the bed so he can get away from it if he gets too hot. |

Florida law also requires that puppies be inspected by a licensed veterinarian before their sale. You should have received a certificate signed by her veterinarian with the sale. Please make sure that this woman can't do this to any more puppies and unsuspecting buyers. |
Yeah I got to thinking about that. There is a reason why she didn't want me to go to the house. Oh and another thing, she mentioned something about taking yorkies to the flea market to sell after the fact....I orgianally found him on a website had been talking back and forth with her for weeks, I have never known of anyone to sell a yorkie at a flea market. And again, I was just looking for a pet for my children. I didn't get him cheap at all. She really got over on me. My friend is upset with me saying that I can't be too trusting with people, I don't want him to go back because im afriad of what he will be going back to. |

I was actually thinking about getting another one so he wont be lonely...but definitley not from her. Although I wish I could save all the puppies...I should've picked up on it beforehand.. I just think maybe it is a good thing he is here with me even though I am nursing him 24/7 and stressing trying to get him to good health. |

How much should a puppy of 5 weeks sleep? |

Please don't even think about getting another puppy at this point. I fear you are looking at exorbitant vet bills with him, both short term and, if he survives, long term. Yorkies are prone to certain genetic conditions just as all purebred dogs are and I am certain this breeder didn't do any health testing or screening. Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. Testing and surgery to correct a shunt is thousands of dollars. Just remember that you only have 14 days to return him for a refund and reimbursement of vet bills up to his purchase price under Florida law. This breeder must be stopped. |
oh, girl a puppy of 5 weeks is very much still depending on mom for teaching him lots of things and in my case they are just weaning off mom's milk, he should sleep, eat, poop, pee, play a little and sleep, again. even at 8 weeks they take naps every couple of hours. my puppies stay with mom until they are 12 weeks. keep him warm and fed, also the runny poo is the change on his diet, you need to have plain pedialyte at home, if you see that he's skin is not bouncing back when you pull on it a bit on his back he is dehydrated, you need to feed him 5cc's of pedialyte every 2 hours until he is back to normal, other than that you must run to the vet, he is VERY young and delicate.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
OMG - he is adorable!!! What's his name? Welcome to YorkieTalk! I got my little girl when she was 10 wks old and 1 pd 10 oz. Almost lost her 3 times to hypoglycemia. She was standing there one second and fell flat on her side the next. Scared the heck out of me. I had a little bag packed for her but one time that she went down I only had time to grab her - put her in my bra/shirt and drive to the vets... but I kept her warm. She had to stay at the vets 2 times! It's nothing to play with. We had to use a syringe and hand feed her for a long time. There were a lot of things she missed out on being taken from her Mom and littermates so early. It's such a shame when these people do this to these babies. I took off the first 3 weeks we had her. I just couldn't leave her when she was that little. Yes, your puppy will be up very little. He's like a new born baby. Sleep - eat - poop. :p I'd like to add that I think you should look for a new vet. If he wasn't familiar with a hypoglycemic episode or shocked that your puppy was taken so young - then I don't think he's too knowledgable on Toy Breeds. Start looking right away because he'll need to be seen again if his poo doesn't firm up soon. You have been given excellent advise here. Please come and ask if you have any questions. Good Luck with your little one. |
If you want, but contact your vet first, you can administer 1/2 cc of Pepto to stop the runny poop. The other thing that he might do is prescribe Albon, which is for Coccidia, but also used for dirreah in puppies, because it is mild and easy on their tummies. |
Mine do not even leave their pen at 5 weeks. They are still nursing part of the time, but also eat some puppy food. they will play for short periods of time. I do not blame you for not wanting to take him back, she would just turn around and sell him to some one else, if you could even get her to take him back. If you can get through the next two weeks, he should do fine. You need to treat him like an infant and not let the kids handle him too much. |
When I look at that picture (which is so adorable) I wonder if the pup is more weeks than 4 but just small and ill. All the other 4 week pup pics i've seen they have nowhere near that length of hair for that age. I could be totally wrong.....my first litter is a week from 4 weeks and they are no where near that kind of length in hair yet. |
He looks older than 4 weeks to me also |

And YES, she sleeps in a baby crib next to my bed...LOL she loves it.... |
I think vets usually judge age by the teeth. |
yes, I know, but my vet said that toy breeds sometimes brake all the rules..:D:D, so he might be a little slow in his develpment, my litter of silkies born November 22 just started peeking at eye opening TODAY, and they are 14 days old..some open their eyes at 10 and some later.. so he might be just a slow baby... |
Winston is his name. |
Cute pictures Carmen!!! :p I agree, I think maybe he is older - probably 10-12 weeks - but what about his teeth? Both of mine had their baby teeth while the adults were coming in. Oh well, I think I would just concentrate on getting him to eat and have a healthy poop. I wouldn't give him any shots right now - and keep him away from other dogs - even at the vets. Keep him up off the ground anywhere you go. Don't bring him out in public for walks either - they can pick up all kinds of crap from that. Get him healthy first - and then he can get socialized. Gez, I didn't mean to sound bossy here - sorry) Please keep us posted. |

He seems to get better each day, he is still sleeping alot but I don't let him out my sight. |
Winston is fits him perfectly. How's he doing today? |
hahaha - posted at the same time! |
The breeder had already given him shots. The vet said you usually don't give shots until 7 weeks. The breeder says he will make 8 weeks this week. I still don't know..he is little though 1 pound 3 oz vet says. what food do you all suggest after he is eating better. she had him on puppy chow and reccomended Royal canine 33?? however she sent me home with eukanuba, go figure. |
