My Yorkie had a c-section 2 weeks ago 3 girls and 1 boy ! She wasnt to sure of the puppies at first either but after the Meds. where out of her system she got the hang of it. I did just as you sat with her and let the puppies nurse that seemed to keep her calm and relaxed. We also bottle fed a couple times a day for the 1st week. I was so tired after that first week but they are all doing great growing like weeds! Make sure you do your Calcium and eggs also keep them warm  ! Congrats on your beautiful puppies! |

The puppies need to nurse as much as possible. Even if they are not getting milk, they are getting colostrum and that is so important to them at this time. The milk will come, just make sure everyone is getting a chance to nurse on the last two nipples. They will have the most milk. Put the smallest puppies on those nipples and let them nurse there for awhile. The bigger ones always find a way to knock them off so watch for that. You can tell a skinny puppy from a nice round belly puppy just by looking. If you have a skinny one, be sure it gets to nurse the most on the back teats. I'm so glad for you -- and hoping everyone will do just fine now. |

he saidto just let them try to nurse and to supplement if they start screaming more...that it may take a few days for everything to start working right. idk. im praying...all over again for a miracle |
Yorkiemama you sure have been through it! I have been following from your first post and it certainly has been an eye opening experience. Very stressful! I'm glad that you had the advice of many experienced breeders here and the support of many to help you get through this. I am THRILLED to hear that your little girl has pulled through and the babies as well! What a blessing. I can only imagine how scary and stressful all of this has been for you. Congratulations on your litter and also on your hubby coming home soon. I will continue to pray for quick healing for your girl and that she will come around and take care of her babies. She has been through a lot as well and may have a change of heart once she is feeling better. Thank you for continuing to keep us posted. |

I know you have the whelping pudding, but a scrambled egg a day, as well as the goat milk recipe I gave you. Put her on a good puppy food without soy in it. Since she had the eclampsia episode, she is prone to getting another...you'll have to be watchful. Make sure she has a meal at night. Keep her kibble bowl full |

my vet gave me a bottle. told me to give 1/4 a tab 2x a day :) andshe has a GREAT appetite surprisingly this soon after surgery. she even tried snatching my muffin out my mouth. lol posted pic of momma in nursery. and THANK YOU ALL!! for all your help. without your patience and advice iwould have never gone with my gut and demanded something done. you saved my best friend:cry: |
momma and babies 4 Attachment(s) and guess what!!! she's kissing them!!!!!!!! yaaaayyyy momma!!!! |
Congrats on the beautiful babies. I am so glad that they have arrived safe and sound. You are going to have to watch your girl very closely for eclampsia, four is a big litter. When one of my girls had to get calcium my vet told me she couldn't nurse for 24 hours after the shot (I don't know why exactly, maybe one of the other breeders knows). Luckily, I had another litter just 18 hours previous and I was able to get that mom to nurse the babies. I have also had a girl who was totally terrified of her babies and would only nurse them or stay with them if I sat with her (I had to force her to let them nurse, she would lay flat on her tummy). After a couple of days she accepted them to nurse and I think she loved them but remained timid with them right through till weaning. After weaning, she was only too happy to let one of the other girls take over with training them, and I have one bossy girl who thinks all babies should be hers and she is very good with them. Get some rest and spend some time with your skin-kids but keep a good watch on Laynee, she is not out of the woods yet. Audrey |
Sounds lijke things are improving. Keep the baby monitor on at night and when you hear the peuppies, get up and make sure they are sucking. Watch so the bigger ones do not knock the little ones off. You can lose one overnight if it is getting pushed off. By morning it will be too weak to eat. |
Congratulations on the safe arrival of 4 babies. Sending more prayers for their continued health and safety, and hugs to you, their super-mom for being brave and getting them this far. Following this and your other thread..... makes me feel like I was in labor. Geez, I'd wake up in the night wondering how it's going. Hope we can all rest now. Keep em safe! |
Look at this!!!! 2 Attachment(s) she's loving on them!!!! Finally!!! i dont have to hold her down to nurse them. i decided to stick em in her crate and force them together. well it worked. she gave in. lol. now its just sweet now question, someone said because she was eclamptic/pre-eclamptic that she can go downhill? what am i suppose to look for? |

Good Luck, your work has just begun. Be careful with those lil ribbons around their neck......Some have lost puppies that way. |

okay and after 72 hrs, what are the chances of it? i will breathe a lot easier friday when hubbys home, when i told him about her emergency c-sec today he cried on the phone. he misses his girl :) |
make sure she has about 5 small meals a day.. I start with breakfast some wet food and dry kibble mixed with 1/2 a tab of calcium pill, then a little snack of scrambled egg, lunch kibble with some goat milk, dinner mix of dry and wet and before bed, I give her some kibble mixed with 1 tab of calcium pill and a mixed with some goat milk. Make sure she has plenty of water and I have my whelping box oposite of the window, so she and the babies can benefit of some sunshine, when is out, is winter in NJ now and sun is precious to all..make sure you keep an eye on her I get up thru the night to check on Chanel and the babies, I have a baby monitor hooked on top of the whelping box and the receiver on my night table. any noise, crying baby gets my attention and I come to the room. hugs, Carmen in nj |

As long as your pups are gaining, you're fine....check for hydration by pulling the skin on their neck. If it bounces right back they are hydrated, if not, call your vet. He can Sub-Q them for you. 3 to 5 days tail docking and dew claw removal. Any changes in the sound of their breathing....could be a respiratory problem, call the vet.....he can administer clovomax....don't wait, it can turn into pneumonia. Most important, don't over handle, all they need is mom right now and quiet. Keep them warm and take care of her, she'll take care of them. We're here if you have any questions. (661) 424-9926 |

So glad they are doing well. Mom and babies look so sweet! |
I'm really impressed with your level of care and compassion for your beautiful dog. Nice job of being there for her and being smart in her care. I'm not a breeder---so, I've stayed quiet. But, I've watched every post and kept you all in our thoughts and prayers. Don't forget to take care of yourself in the midst of this--you need your strength too! I think this has been a good "real life" gut check about the work it takes for safe deliveries. And, super impressed that she even has her bows in--bonus points! |
