i ended up taking her straight in to vet when she went stiff
they did an emergency c section...4 beautiful babies....3 boys 1 girl. momma was spayed too but she refuses to nurse them...still waiting for anesthesia to wear off. doc said she went full on eclamptic.

I'm glad that you went to the vet. Now please explain, does this mean she has eclampsia?

he said thy caught itin time...gave her calcium and other stuff...ugh idk. im tired

OH, congratulations on the babies, sorry about the c section but at least she is doing well..
can't wait to see pictures..

My last c section it took momma about 24 hours to bond with the pups. She would run from them... After that she did great.

Atleast this part is over now, hopefully you get a little bit of rest, you must be exhausted. Now the furbabies are here, you're girl is safe, you never have to worry about her going thru this again!

I think I've read on here it takes a while for them to come around to "mommy zone" after the C Section.

Isn't your husband going to be home soon too?

Glad to hear they are finally here. I hope she starts to nurse. Will she allow them to nurse if you make her lay there?

Sassy is now laying still but I feel pups have moved down, I can not tell but I think the one that was up is coming first feet first That is what I am feeling. So I pray she delivers on her own. We will see.

she will let them nurse if i lay in the playpen with her..lol
she wont lick them or do it on her own, shes scared of them

Congratulations on your new litter. I pray momma and babies will do will. Just give her a little time and I am sure she will start caring for her babies. Do you know the weights of the pups?

thank you...no he didnt weigh them...too hectic. i almost lost her. i was scared but feel truly blessed they are all okay and shes fixed so no more accidents

Congrats on your new babies, 4 wow that is a blessing. I hope everything continues to go smoothly for you. She may be scared of them because she doesn't know where they came from. I had a friend who had a litter of Cotton de Tulear or whatever they are called. Well she had a c section and only 1 pup was born alive. The mom rejected him and never took care of him. I hope Laynee accepts her babies soon for you. Good luck

You'll have to diaper them. Take a warm cotton ball and rub their private areas.

She's still under anesthetic.....

Did your vet instruct you on the eclampsia. Possibility may exists that these pups will have to be hand reared

They are beautiful, Look at how tiny the are!! :) I just want to tell you that you are VERY brave and a strong woman. Oh wow! Finally! Congratulations :)

I've been following this thread (and its predecessor) for awhile now... I have absolutely no experience in breeding, reading this thread has been an eye opening (and stressful!) experience. The support and input from knowledgeable breeders has been amazing, and comforting to you I'm sure. :thumbup:

Best of luck with the little ones. Hope mama recovers quickly and takes to them soon!

Your babies are beautiful! Do you have postal scales or a kitchen scale so you can get their weight? You will need that so you can keep track if they are gaining or losing weight

When we had the c-section, it took about 12-18 hours for my girl to accept her puppies. Just make sure that you keep her stitches dry. I would take a clean dry wash cloth and pat her belly. I know that they can get infected from the sweat of the teats when they are full of milk. You also want to make sure that you trim the puppies nails back because they can scratch and that can make the incision infected as well. It also hurts them more because her incision will be sore.

Congrats on your puppies.

Don't forget to weigh them and make sure they are gaining. Did your vet give her an oxy shot to help bring in the milk? Mine did with the c-section and it helped a lot. He explained to me that as long as they nurse, even though she is spayed, she will make milk.

yea he gave oxy and gave me a bottle of calcium pills, 2 syringes of pain meds and antibiotics, and some milk. but theywont nurseby hand and shes notmaking much milk.but she did eat twice since being home. but pups are hungry..im trying eveything

the more they suck on her the more milk she will produce, if you really notice that she is not producing enogh milk and the pupies are crying and hungry then you have to feed them by hand. make sure you have plenty of goats milk..
