| does the runt always stay the smallest? Well I did it....I have put down a deposit for a new baby girl.....took me forever to let my heart out way my head..lol. Cooper is our 2 yr old boy that we love to death, but I have been wanting a girl for about 1 year now and finally took the plunge. Coopers mommy had her last litter of babies and had 2 girls. There is quite a difference in size between her 2 babies....one is much more longer and skinnier/leaner looking and the other girl has shorter legs but is much chunkier looking more compact looking while the other looks so tiny. My question when there is a good difference in size between 2 littermates like this, does the runt always stay the smallest? Or do they catch up with each other so to speak so there is no real way to tell if the runt will defiantly be smaller throughout life? Or the breeder has said alot of times the chunkier 1 just eats all the time and pushes the little one out of the way but once the are weaned many times they then either catch up with each other in size or at least become much closer? Is the runt always going to stay the smallest or no real way to tell?

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Congrats on your new baby!!! In my experiences it has been different each litter. I have had the smallest stay the smallest, and I've also had the smallest pass the biggest and become the biggest. So it can really go either way. |

| Congratulations on getting a new baby girl. I agree with Breny. I have seen it go both ways. There is no real way to tell at that age. It would have been nice if the breeder would have let you wait and choose when the pups are older. |

BANNED! | Congrats on your new little baby, hope she settles into her new home! Well, if you look at my pictures of Moose, he doesn't look runtish does he? well he is a runt! He was the smallest of the breeders litter, but he had the most fine hair, nice and thick, and a rare color! He has grown, and doesn't look like one, my mother can't even tell the difference between him and a normal not run shorkie! But he will always be my little runt! |

| Raindrop was the runt, and stayed little. She is 4 1/2 pounds and I am very happy she put on that much weight. I didn't want her to be a 2 or 3 pounder. Sometimes you can have alot of health problems when they are too small.

| Thanks much for all your responses. I really thought I wanted the small one/runt but once I went to go seem them I feel in love with the bigger one but still was not sure. I thought all week about getting the runt, but went back over the weekend and held the bigger one and it is just an instant bond.....I know I picked the right one for me she is soooo sweet and she was meant to be for us her eyes followed mine and I put her in my arm next to my chest while I was talking to the breeder and just stroked her with 1 finger and she feel fast asleep in like 2 minutes...she is Cooper's real/full sister, same mom and dad and she has not had another litter for over a year or more and this is her very last litter so feel like this was meant to be.....pictures below of my new Miss Chloe, I have several weeks before she comes home but already love her to pieces.

| If the little one you held, fell asleep in your arms, that is probably the one you should get. Like you said, "you already feel the bond". Your heart will know. Love the pictures. She's so precious.

| She is precious. How old is she in the picture? She doesn't look that big to me. My Jack was the biggest in his litter when I picked him. Now he's the smallest of them all.

| She is very cute. I think you made the right choice. The tiny ones are so delicate.
