Is there such a thing as platinum yorkies?

Hmm, I wonder if Harmony would be considered a platinum color? I know that it isn't technically a color but if there was such a color if she would fall in that category?

She is technically blue and gold though the blue keeps getting lighter and lighter each heat cycle. It's almost to the point of white now as she had her first litter recently. She is 2 1/2 years old.

She was however the correct dark blue color when she was younger. And her brother who I also own still holds that dark blue.

Their momma's hair on the other hand is complicated. She seems to always be changing colors. I've never seen one change as much as she does. Every heat cycle, every litter and in between she seems to be a different color. Right now she is light silver mixed with actually white hair and the dark blue as well.

Don't you just love yorkies, their colors are so beautiful and so changing!!

Anyways here are 2 pictures of Harmony.

The first one is the most recent though taken awhile ago. The second picture was when her hair was a dark blue and she was 1 year old.

If a pup begins lightening at a very young age....say approximately 3 months...more than likely the pup will be light when it reaches adult hood.

Breeder/exhibitors prefer that pups don't begin their transition in coloring until approximately 10 months in age. But, then we're looking at the change in the gold too. Along with the texture of the coat.

That reminds me. Is it the same for color clearing on the head?
I've recently noticed a pattern in my pups. If the color on their head starts breaking at about 8 weeks old, their whole head as an adult is all one color.

If they start later breaking color on their head say 12 weeks or older, they don't seem to clear all color as adults. They will still have some of the black mixed in.

Do you find this to be true or just the case in my situation?

As for the body, I've not had one yet that started breaking color on their body until they were 6 months or older. And those colors have varied from light blue to dark blue.

The light pic of Harmony is exactly the color of Uni. She has had 4 heat cycles, but never bred. But she was always light. Her head is normal gold, but her body is very light silver, and her butt esp is almost white. The texture of harmony's hair looks just like uni's too.

That would be me. I am the daughter. Asti is a gold parti carrier, also referred to as chinchilla or platinum blonde. I have attached his puppy photos. He was this color at birth. Also attached is his sire... platinum.

I forgot to attach this photo of Nels a Bells. She is a silver yorkie. When she was a puppy, she was black and gold. Then she turned blue and gold, and with every year, she lightened up.. So it's true, a yorkie's color changes, but some yorkies are born chocolate, parti, platinum, etc.

Interesting. Nellie's coloring is similar to Thor's. Thor is also getting lighter over time, and his butt is lighter than his shoulders. I've seen other yorkies whose bodies are the same color as Thor's - Uni looks very similar - but Thor's head is almost entirely white. His muzzle, ears, and feet are a very light gold.

I didn't pay extra for Uni b/c of it, she was very reasonably priced for my area. The breeder said no such thing to me. She was black and tan when she was a baby, normal looking. Now she is tan in the face and lighter tan in the feet, and light silver on her back.

If anyone has any info regarding this, I would like to know. I don't know what to reply to people when they comment on how light she is and that they've never seen one with her coloring before. i don't want to declare she is a "platinum" if there technically is no such thing.

She's adorable, i never would have thought you dyed her. Nor would i have thought anyone would dye their dog. Except the weird ones who dye them pink. Ha ha. Anywho, she looks like any other yorkie i've seen. Maybe a bit more silver hair though. Still very pretty. =]

What I"ve noticed, is that every heat cycle, her color changed. Her sister/litter mate was the exact same color. She was fixed early, and her color stayed the same, but my Nels a Bells, changed, and still changes color.
We have and have had quite a few yorkies who have had the all blonde head. They aren't standard, but people sure seem to adore them. Ofcourse, I just love them all!

How was Thor's coloring when he was younger? I think you said you adopted him right? How old was he when you got him, or was he already light when you adopted him? I'm interested to know when his color started breaking. uni was already starting to turn when I got her (12 weeks), I thought she was going bald
