| Hello everyone, Please don't get me... I'm ducking right now... but I wanted to respond to a few things. First, Bailie... I'm new to the Biewers and to breeding. The different clubs, breeding practices, and opinions shared by those who own Biewers is controversial to say the least. After months of reading and researching the breed, I can say this much... They are worth it!!! All of the pomp can turn some off because no one wants to spend that kind of money for a dog that is "wrong" or not found representative of the breed standard. Because the breed originated in Germany, my decision was to go by that standard alone (created by Mr and Mrs Biewer), no matter what club you join. I surfed the internet for quite awhile before I made a decision on how I wanted to start my program and found a few great breeders to mentor me a long the way. Ask tons of questions... do your homework... but don't count these beauties out just because so many people fuss over their future. And be very careful... or you'll fall head over heels in love!!! Secondly... I kind of resented the statement about new breeders and their lack of knowledge of genetics and the breed. It's easy to throw us all into one group of uneducated, lovestruck reproducers, but just as their are some awful breeders who have been running unethical programs for years.... there are also those who want to get it right from the beginnning. I only want the best for my biewers and for those who will adopt babies from me. Some of us do research the breed and the lines we are interested in. I can not tell you how many females I have chosen to pass on because of their pedigrees. That being said... we all have to start somewhere and sometimes the best experience comes from taking a leap of faith. My advice to anyone thinking of breeding would be to read, interview breeders (lots of them), study and choose your mentors carefully. We have some beautiful dogs and some very good breeders who are owned by them. The great breeders want to pass on what they know and love to teach. We shouldn't be eating our young (or each other for that matter), but provide a helping hand to those who need one. I'm sure I will make mistakes and I won't have all the answers, but I know lots of people who will be there holding my hand and help make the right decisions for me and my biewers. I don't mean to offend... just wanted to put my thoughts out there. Blessings, |
