I used the hemostats with my last litter, they worked great the only problem is that mama likes to be in charge she is not mean she just tries to push her way in my way sometimes she wins sometimes she dont. Any one have that problem?

Another ?. How often do I apply the iodine? Is it until the cord falls off?

I was extremely nervous about cutting the cords. I hadn't had a litter in a while so I got nervous again this last time but it isn't hard with the advice that everyone has given you. Of course, my female let me do this and didn't try to interfere.

My question is . . . must the iodine be white? I used the dark one. Is it best to use white because the other one stains so bad?

Do make sure though that you use unwaxed dental floss. I made the mistake of using it this time and it slipped off but everything turned out ok.

I had a really hard time finding hemostats locally. I normally order several things from Revival at a time and I just needed those. I got them from a kid that used them when he went fishing. So if you prefer to avoid shipping charges see if you can find them at a bait and tackle place.

I always used the dark Iodine, i actually only heard of this "white" in this thread, the stains are not a big deal.

Only used one time, it will fall soon, the "stub" of the umbilical cord dries out and sometimes next day will be off already ...

My moms sometimes fight with me... kkk they like to be in charge .

I never used hemostats , i prefer my own old way instead of a change.

She had her puppies Tues night, 4 girls. Unfortunatly, I had to work. Hubby and son were w/her when she had them and they were way more scared than I was about cutting the cord. Gigi, did everything herself and had no problems. But at least now I think I've overcome my nervousness about cutting the cord myself and have all my supplies ready for the next time. I had been practicing tieing and cutting the dental floss in hopes for feeling more comfortable when the time came...lol Thanks everybody for the words of encouragement and support.
