Maybe it would be a good idea for a newbie or an oops breeding to start with searching the website on YT and reading some of the old threads. Every day there is someone here loosing a puppy. a dam, or a litter because they weren't prepared; hadn't gotten the dog neutered or some other reason for an oops breeding. Even experienced breeders loose a dam or litter and it hurts.

IMHO the breeders who are willing to help the beginners, newbies, and oopsies should be thanked and not bashed. And those that experience this kind of situation should own up to it, and not take it so personal when someone tells them they should've, could've, would've prevented this breeding. JMHO.

Very well put Deb... I didn't have a mentor when I decided to breed but, I have a wonderful vet who spent alot of time with me and teaching me all that I needed to know about the health of my Yorkies and the proper way for whelpping. To this day I still call on him from time to time especially when I have a first time momma. And like so many of the more experienced breeders I take calls at all hours of the day and night to help others where I can.

Every one of us would help in an emergency or a scared newbie whelping for the 1st time. However, the outlandish questions on some threads make me tear my hair out. I usually just stay away from them, instead of risk getting banned. The "Oh.. we forgot and he bred his mother, is it OK?" (and the fool anwer of "it's done by Show breeders all the time... WRONG!!) or the "un-neutered rescue bred like 50 times, but innocent ignorance didn't stop him after the 1st time" or the brother and sister that bred, or the 1 1/2 lb bred female, oh, and the one.. "I love my male and he is georgous, so how do I go about using him for stud?" I just want to cry.. or scream. Just what do you want me to say... I've worked for 14 yrs. to do my best for the breed, and reading about such things or risking the lives of these precious dogs breaks my heart!
I bought a library of books, talked to breeders, paid for several 1 hour appts with 3 different Vets for months just asking questions. Went to Dog Shows, Got online, researched, and learned everything I could before I even decided on Showing or Breeding. I've now 14 yrs of experience, and I am always willing to help when there is need. But a Bitch bred on 6/18 has plenty of time to call her Vet. Will it hurt the female being bred so many times... Maybe. Common sense... probably. She had read some, or she wouldn't have asked not to be judged harshly. I guess "Congratulations on the upcoming litter" is what she wanted to hear. She may have had her feelings hurt, but you bet she can call on any of us in time of need and we'll help!

I so agree with you Dee. I am a fairly new breeder and am also showing my female. I do alot of research here on YT and on the internet and i have amassed quite alot of books on breeding, genetics, whelping and several vet books. If you look at my posts you can see I rarely ask questions about these subjects unless something comes up that I don't understand or I am trying to help someone out , or there is just not enough info on a certain problem. Now i don't have alot of posts because most of the time I am doing research and reading other posts. I do speak up when I think I have something to say. Other times I get frustrated by newcomers who ask questions that can be answered with a few words in the search engine. I just think maybe if instead of posting the same things over and over just give them a link to a previous post that may help them. and for the people coming on with questions and thinking the person giving advice was rude or harsh, try putting yourself in their shoes and you could understand the frustration. My mom used to always say you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. I also want to just add that religion should play no part in what people say or how they say it.
