It sounds like everything is under control. I am still watching and waiting more updates. Hopefully, she will have them before evening so that you can get some rest. |
I feel so bad for her. She did eat this afternoon but refussed her dinner and usually she wants to hand around the table at dinner time but not tonight she wanted to potty and go right back to the playpen. That is the first time she has refussed food in weeks. Of course we had our trow up early in the day and she has been have contractions all day but I have not timed them. Now she has what looks like clear liquid coming out and it just sitting there with her ears down and looking at me so pittifully as if to say "why won't you do something" :aimeeyork |
Is she having strong contractions? The liquid, does it have any color to it at all? Is she pushing? |
They seem pretty strong. Tummy is shaped funny and it is hard. Puppies no longer seem to be on the sides but more toward the center. I checked the liquid and it isn't a lot like ran onto the bed but is there and is totally clear. No she is not pushing. just being very quiet and looking pittifull. |
Definitely in the delivering stages then from what you are describing. If she starts pushing and doesn't produce a puppy within 1 hour, I would get the emergency vet on the phone immediately. My vet told me not to watch over her like a hawk as that can delay the activity, but keep an eye on her too. I know it's difficult. |
It sounds like her water bag broke. I would think she should have pups within a few hours. |
Right now she is in her playpen here right next to me and I was thinking about taking her out to sit with her on let her whelp snuggled on the couch with some washable pee pads but now I don't know if I should or if I should just leave her in there. She keeps getting up it seems like every few minutes to pee. |
That would be the pressure of the puppies. I would leave her in the pen as long as you can get to her and help with breaking the sacks if you need to. |
There isn't a lot of liquid, just a trickle. I am waiting for her to throw up what she ate this afternoon. I need to go now and make her whelping pudding. I should have done it sooner and now it won't have time to set...any ideas there? |
I would wait until the whelping is over to make it. You want to make sure that you are around in the event that something (and I pray it doesn't) go wrong. You may need to assist. |
I wanted to able to give it during incase she needed the calcium or energy. I have nutrical and just now realized that I only have a few tums left that are ultra 1000 max strength. I am so worried about her energy and calcium through this. |
or I also have the pet nutri drops I got for the puppies. |
Do you have any ice cream? That would give her calicum. |
Nope, bought cottage chesse instead. Should I try to see if she will eat some of that ? My store is very close and I can have someone watch her while I run and get tums if I need to. Geeze, I thought I was so ready for this lol  |
Honestly, I have never worried like this before. At what point should hse need it and if she eats the cottage cheese now, will she throw it up? |
She probably will throw it up. I would use the nutri-cal drops if anything and use some of the puppy nutri-drops if you need too. I would use the cottage cheese after everything is done. You may want to have someone else go and get it. I wouldn't leave her right now if I were you. |
Keep her in her whelping box. Canines are den animals. they nest in the wild in what we call dens. I would definitely keep a eye on her. Someone said a vet stated, standing there watching them can somewhat delays the process. I found this to be true when I was breeding Goldens. I hope you can find something to give her for the calcium and energy. That is important. Also she may surprise you and not throw up anymore. However if you see that she is pushing and a hour goes by, as the above poster said, off to the vet, and pretty quick. I've been watching this thread since you posted. SO POST!!! lol Carol and Jemma |
This is the hardest part. Waiting while the OP is not responding. I am praying and praying that everything goes textbook delivery for you. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. |
K, ran in the other room and my daughter and I followed the recipie and threw it together in a few minutes while my son sat in the family room watching her. Now it has to set but I did keep a little out and thought maybe she would take it warm. Should I give it now or wait till pushing and active. She is still very quiet just looking pittifull and uncomfortable. I think her personality is such that she may be very quiet all troughout if it all goes normally. |
Honestly, you just need to relax and let momma have her babies. She won't need whelping pudding any time soon. You can give her little bites of Nutri-cal throughout her delivery. You need to be right with her, feel of her vulva for a bulge. Once the puppy starts coming out you will feel the bulge. Sometimes the puppy will bulge out and then go back in. With each contraction the puppy should come out a little more. If she starts pushing hard and no puppy after an hour then you call the vet. As for the nutri-drops, I don't give them to my pups when they are first born but I know some people do. If you do decide to use them be sure you shake the bottle well and give only 1 drop. |
I wish I lived closer -- I have a dozen or more tubes of Cal-Sorb and would gladly share with you. |
I wouldn't give her any whelping pudding right now. I would wait until it was over. I just recommended the nutri-cal incase she got tired in the middle of the delivery. I didn't give my puppies any of the nutri-cal drops right after either. I just made sure that they latched on to mom. This made the contractions continue to come. As the other poster said, you do need to relax. She can sense it if you are too worried. |
I would not give it quite yet. When was the last time she had anything to eat? Try and remain as calm as possible so she doesn't pick up your anxiety, lol...which you have. And stay close but not right on top of her. Goldens are bigger, which I bred. The whelping boxes are usually 4 by 4 feet or 5 x 5. Once I got in the whelping box with my pillow. Kinda sat up but put my head back on the pillow. My Golden put her head on my lap. A couple hours went by. I said shoot, I'm getting something to eat. Went in the kitchen, ate, came back and she had 2 pups already. I decided then and there to let her be the den Mommy. I stayed close and peeked but that was all I did. Nature kicks in and they know what to do ...most of the time. Just make sure she breaks the sacs as soon as the puppy decides to pop out. |
I always break the sac and cut the cord myself. It is too risky letting the mom do it. Most of the time they can do it just fine but I have read accounts where the momma will cut the cord too short, exposing the insides, or chewing off a foot or a ear. I feel safer doing it myself. |
I cut all of my cords too. It made it a lot easier on her because she didn't really know what she was doing. It was my dog's first pregnancy too and she didn't even break the sacks. That why I suggest that you keep an eye on them but don't hover. |
Ok, take a breath...LOL I am all good really! ;) I have made the pudding and since you say she doesn't need it now I have it in the fridge and have made sure everything else is ready and in place and am waiting. Poor baby is staring at me like she wants me over there but I am trying not to be on top of her. She is whining just a tiny bit and looking at me with contractions but otherwise quiet. There still is not too much liquid. |
ok just had our first push. nothing crazy just a slight push. |
Come on Honey, you can do it. |
Oh, forgot to say that I do also have the calsorb but didn't think I should use it unless there was an emergency. Cindy can I use that instead of the tums later? |
I used it only when my Ellie was getting tired and didn't have contractions for a while. I wouldn't use it unless it looks like labor has stopped and she still has some to deliver. |
