I know what you mean Ann, Manolos Food alone is $75.00 a bag, not to mention Healthcare and Grooming, Toys, Treats, Leads,Beds and Blankets and on and on and on. One thing for sure, glad we dont have to put them thru college.......

Tell them you put alot of time, love and money into your breeding so you have healthy dogs for good homes. If they don't have the money to buy a dog how will they feed it good food, pay vet bills, take care of monthly heartworm and flea meds? Not to mention grooming costs? The bare essentials.

I completely agree... they are worth every penny... and you shouldnt feel bad not at all.. yorkies are expensive and its not cheap to have one.. if they cant afford one perhaps they should try looking for a dog that they are able to afford... obviously if they cant afford one what makes them think they will have money for vet bill...vacciness..grooming.. food etc.. lol my babies havent had puppies but ive had so many ppl asking once i do.. if i can give them for free since they are going to good homes lmao.. silly them

I wasn't using the word "fix" to mean "neuter or spay" I was using it as in "fix what ails them". A friend recently told me about a trip to the vet where a couple was told they could fix the broken leg of their dog, who was hit by a car, for $1,000, or choose euthanasia for less than $100.00. They chose euthanasia.

Gotcha. I thought that was outrageous if someone was paying that much to spay their dog! Although I do believe a lot of vets nowadays have gotten rather greedy when it comes to actually "fixing" peoples broken animals. I worked at an animal hospital and witnessed the greed and snobbiness first hand. Thankfully I have a wonderful vet that actually cares for animals and not about driving a luxery car. I believe a good vet will work with a family instead of just offering to kill their dog if they can't pay up front.

Well, I'm sure there are many types of vets just like with anything, but they have to pay their rent and staff, and I don't think their families should suffer because somebody else is irresponsible. I often wondered, if the vet did fix the dog, and just put it in a rescue.

I don't think that just because a person cannot pay an unexpected vet bill all at once that it makes them irresponsible. I seen many dogs come in that were hit by a car, attacked by another dog, and even a case of a neighbor poisoning a dog. Not everyone has a large amount of money set aside just in case something happens to their dog.

While it's true that not everyone has large chunks of cash lying around, part of being responsible pet owner is having access to cash or credit should an emergency arise. Many people recommend having one credit card set aside for that purpose. While we can't predict the future, I believe it's irresponsible to have a pet, and absolutely no way to pay for emergency medical treatment. If you can't save or buy insurance, how are you going to afford to make payments to the vet? I don't think these people are necessarily "bad" people, but they are what I would call "irresponsible".

Sadly people thinks that they deserve everything, they offer a backyard, lots of time, etc and expecting the free or cheap pup, well they don't know anything, people are crazy for real, don't feel bad, I'm telling you I had those e mails too and you know what??? think about this... would you ever write anyone asking for a free emerald??????? tell me, then you'll see the difference.

My Lexie is due to have her first litter in a week and I've already had two people ask me if I have any extra puppies that I can't sell that they would take one. I just could not believe someone would actually ask me that!
