Should I breed my 4 pound Yorkie

I have a little 2 year old 4 pound yorkie. The breeder was keeping her to be in her breeding program. At l0 months of age she determined that Lucy was too small to breed. At that time they rehomed her. From l0 months to 2 years she has gained .3 ozs. She now weighs 4.3 pounds. I am so glad she did not grow because I got the little sweetheart. Even at age 2 she still acts like a little puppy. I cannot imagine her as a mother.

Welcome to YT. I hope you'll listen to the great advice you got. Any time you breed you risk your girl, it can be a terrible loss.

I would not breed a female that is only 4 pounds.

milu is perfect. and before i spayed her, i also thought about not spaying her because i had many breeders tell me that i should show her and breed her, and my vet said that milu is healthy, has good temperament, and is beautiful, so its fine if i want to breed her. (but the fact is she was under 3 lbs at 8 months and i felt that she was way too small to have puppies)

i emailed diff. breeders and posted a thread here to ask for advice. after learning all the things involved in breeding dogs responsibly. i decided that there is no way i can handle being a breeder. i would not be able to deal with anything bad happening to my little angel.

she is 13 months now and she did make it to 3 lbs. but i look at her and i don't see how any dog her size can have puppies safely.

Don't breed her... IF you want another adorable puppy RESCUE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is hard for me to reply to but I think it might be important to pass on my tragic experience.

Look at this sweet girl. She was 6-6.5 lbs. She had 5 beautiful puppies on 2/28/09 -- 3 days later she was gone, a complication of childbirth. I miss her so much and wish I had not bred her. I thought I was all ready for breeding. That was going to be my retirement challenge. Breed for a line of beautiful Yorkies! But I failed to take the risk to my girl as serious as it is. If you breed, no matter the size or health you are risking losing your precious family member. Can you take that risk?

i am so sorry about your baby girl. but thank you so much for sharing your experience. when i was asking for advice about possibly breeding my baby milu, it was also other breeders' sad experiences that really helped me put things in perspective and understand what i would be risking if i decided to breed milu.

i think it's important for people to understand what they are getting themselves into, and what risks there are. that way they can make a informed decision and not take breeding dogs lightly.
