| x-rays and fleas? Got our x-rays and found out that abby is going to have 3 in a few days. Tonight she was in bed with me and I found acouple of fleas on her. While I was scratching her I found stuff in her hair like black sand. Is there anything that is safe to kill fleas on her. The last thing that I want is to have new babies and fleas. Please help. |

| Give her a bath with dawn dish soap. Let the dawn sit on there for 5 mins then rinse

| I was in the vet for an x-ray this week too. My vet did say that Frontline has been found to be safe for pregnant females *but* she does not like to recommend anything like that for a pregnant female. She felt safer suggesting I use PERT PLus shampoo. She said it is not a pesticide but the fleas cannot live after a bath with that. That seems safer to me too. I have not tried it myself because I only found 1 flea a few weeks ago, so she should be fine until after the pups arrive. I have the same outlook on giving a chemical like Frontline, so that helps me to trust my vet (as we have the same opinion on medicating pregnant female) Good luck, I already gave my girl her last bath because she doesnt like baths very much and I don't want to stress her any more than she already is right now. If your girl likes baths and will not be stressed about them , then I would try Pert. Oh and I wish you the best with your upcomming litter, i hope you have a safe and quick whelp!

| Thanks for the information. Do you use dawn full strenght? I have dawn here. And since the puppies are due any day I need to do something today. Rosiegirl :congrat on your up coming litter I read your x-ray thread. 5 puppies whow and on the first litter. Abby had 4 on her 1st and that was perfect. When are your puppies due? Abby is on Day 60 today. I also found one flea on abby a few weeks ago and thought we were ok etc..., but last night found more and then the sand like stuff, which i think is the flee poo. anyway congrat on your litter and can't wait to hear more about your little girl/ |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Oh my , wouldn't that be awful to have a new litter with fleas!!!! Not good, for sure. Get her that bath with Dawn or Pert Plus, ASAP. I had a female that had fleas right after she had gotten pregnant. My vet had said the same thing about Frontline and did treat her with it and her pregnancy continued on with no problems and resulted in four healthy puppies! I don't think though, that I would feel as comfortable using it with pups due in a few days; not sure why or if it really makes any difference.

| Same here I should have treated her the first time that I saw a flea, but took care of it and didn't see any others so thought we were ok and then this. I did bath her and her son with dawn today. Ans washed all bedding in really hot water. Both were not happy, but put up with me. They are extremely soft I do have to say. May use dawn more often. Though I am seeing Abby scratching a little still. Hope it is just irritation from previous fleas. Will keep a close watch. |

| Well, i went out and bought the Pert Plus last night too. And i washed both of my dogs with that. DDJ2- You should update this thread about how Dawn is working for you and I will update about Pert-plus....We can see how they work out like an experiment. My girls are very soft too and I have not seen them itch yet, but i will watch through today and update this thread. I am curious about which one is better. (our poor pregnant girls can't barely bend around to itch too well, huh?)

| your right about bending around and itching. It is funny Abby seems much more uncomfortable this time and seems to have a harder time climbing the stairs and yet she showed only 3 puppies. Last time there were 4. I wonder if there are a couple hiding that we didn't see. Last time My vet took 2 pictures from different angles and this time only one. Rosiegirl How much did your little girl weight before she was preg. and How much does she weight now.Abby was right at 7 lbs. so is bigger that the average girl and now weights 9lbs. On the flea front I haven't seen any more scratching so hopefully that is under control. |

| I haven't seen anyone itch on my end either, not once and i have been sitting with them for 5 hours straight doing homework. Also I read a thread about how a vet's x-ray saw 4 pups and it turned out to have 12 pups! You may have a little surprise in there. (x-rays aren't 100% accurate sometimes) Rosie weiged 6 lbs on her last date we bred her with the stud. I forgot to ask them to weigh her at the vet the other day, but she's got to be at least 2 lbs heavier for sure. Any signs from your female that she's ready? I havn't seen anything really from Rose, lots of kicks coming from her belly though.

| I don't know for sure but I think Ajax is quite strong, I wouldn't try it if I were you. Dawn has ton's of uses for many things and that is why it is trusted. They use it on all sorts of animals, for the dollar it will cost it is worth the piece of mind that it offers.

| Abby has started ith a slight discharge. Which they say is what lubes the birth canal. She hasn't wanted to eat either I think in the end the only reason that she eats her food is so that Bear won't get it. haha Today is day 62 hope she has them tonight, tomorrow or Thurs. I did get to go to school this am and take my test as her temp was 99.5 so thought that today probably won't be the day. She oscillates between 100.7 to 99.5 so we will see where she is tonight. Last time her temp. dropped i the am. and she didn't start panting, etc until 11 p.m. didn't start pushing until 4 am. and last puppy was born 8 am. What a long night. Though can't wait to do it all over again. Rosiegirl Keep me posted on your girl. |

| What good timing we have lately, I just got on here for a minute. I noticed some discharge from rosie today, it was clear and slimy. I also saw her have a little digging/ bed-making session on my bed an hour ago. She is still eating but is acting a bit different right now. Her belly feels really warm too. This will be her first (and mine) litter so I am just now starting to get pretty nervous/excited. I took my test today too, but the BIG one is on Wednesday (human anatomy/physiology) So we'll see if we can hold out or have them before then. (we're on day 60 or 55) so I guess to hold out till thursday will be best. Keep me posted! I think it sounds like you are getting very close. I hope you have a very safe and healthy whelp. (she really doesn't want her temp taken anymore, so I have only done it 2x a day, earlier it was at 99.5)

| Well, I made to to my test (I think I must have gotten pretty close to 100%), then I went and got a pair of hemostats. I came home and found that Rosie puked on my bed while I was gone this morning! I have been slacking on taking temps, but I just did it and her temp is 98.5, this may be really close! I don't know, I will check back in soon. If this is it, wish us luck.
