Heavy panting now?

When I had my first yorkie litter the momma, Dixie, got eclampsia when her pups were about 10 days old. We rushed her to the vet and they gave her calcium through an iv. The vet told us to not let the pups nurse for at least 6 hours and then it would be okay. Dixie did just fine with her pups after that but I just made sure I gave her calcium twice a day. A couple of years after that I was introduced to Cal-sorb by my vet and one day I had a bitch have a eclampsia attack and I gave her cal-sorb and she was completely back to normal in 30 minutes. During my 12 years of breeding that has been my experience with eclampsia. I really feel the best way to prevent it is to make sure the momma eats 4 good meals a day and make sure she gets a calcium supplement.

I appreciate that information because I was very concerned not only with mom but the pups. My problem is I tend to always overfeed. So I decided after reading your post to let mom back with her pups. I guess the least that could happen is mom would have another relapse in which I would have to take her back to the emergency vets. They were happy to see her and she is doing a good job of getting them all cleaned up. Is Cal-sorb sold over the counter?

you can get Cal-sorb at Revival Animal Health Products for Pet Professionals, Veterinarians and Pet Lovers, I don't know if they sell it at Petsmart or other places like that. Hope she is doing better.

I order my Cal-sorb from Revival Animal Health Products. Some vets might sell it. You could call around to some of the vets in your area and one of them might have it. I always keep it on hand. Also from Revival I order the Doc Roy's Healthy Bones. It is a calcium tablet and I give my females 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. Just make sure the mom is eating plenty of food. I feed mine dry Chicken Soup Puppy food mixed with a little canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice Puppy food.
