It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Early Delivery Have any of you had a dog deliver early between 57-62 days and the pups make it? Lacie had a sonogram done on Thursday at 54 days. She has been leaking since Monday. Just a little clear fliud because she is so full. The vet thought she may delever as early as this past weekend. She did not. Thank goodness. M question is if she does deliver early I know the lungs are still forming this last week. Is there anything I can do to help insure the pups make it? Or is pray the only option? I'm doing that. I am keeping her as calm as possible so that hoping she will carry full term. But just looking ahead. She is now 58 days today.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | If she is 58 days today then your pups should be fine.. my vet told me that is safe for the babies to be born any time after the 58th day.. so if she made it to today is ok to have the pups any day now.. Best of luck with her whelping.. hugs, cArmen in nj |

| The earliest I have had was at 58 days, no complications and babies were healthy and normal.....I have another girl that always give birth at 60 days from first tie, healthy babies too. I belive is more risky at 57 and below. Good Luck and wishing you the best on your upcoming litter. |

Now that we are at 58 days I'll relax alittle. It was close last night, she was panting and nesting but no labor. I was so relieved! Thank you.

| All puppies are born at 63 days whether it is 63 days from the date of their first tie or not. She may have very well dropped her eggs a few days prior to her first tie with the male and so she may delivery earlier than you expect. The eggs actually go about 3 days prior to being fertilized until they are ripened and then are fertilized by the sperm. So to answer your question yes it is very possible for the puppies to live if they are "born early". Because it may in fact not be early at all. You can read about this in Myra Savant Harris's whelping and reproduction book. A great read with lots of helpful information. Best of luck for a healthy litter! |

| Did you do testing to know which day she actually ovulated on? A dogs gestation is 63 days from OVULATION so unless you know the exact day she ovulated, 63 days from first tie is only an estimate.

| Even though a dogs gestation period is 63 days from ovulation there are many things that can cause them to whelp early just like humans can deliver early. I have a bitch that just delivered 7 pups Sunday night and she was 58-59 days from 1st breeding. I could tell they were a little premature because of the lack of hair. I think crowding in the womb is one of the major causes of early delivery and stress is also a leading cause. All the pups so far are fine but some are very small (skinny) and I am sure that was because of the crowding in the womb. Luckily mom has lots of milk. |

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | 59 days Thank you everyone for your responses. It seems I was a little hasty in think she might deliever early after all. She is now on day 59 with not birth. So she may go full term. I am keeping her as stress free as possible. She still eats like she is sarving and behaving normally. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again to all.

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Day 60 Well, We are at day 60. We've had two evenings where nesting was so strong I thought that might be the night but nope she's waiting a little longer. We might just make our "due date" of Friday after all.

| ~58-63 days is the average, but they can have them earlier or later. One of my females eats and drinks right up to her whelping, its different with every female. Glad she went past 58 days. Good Luck on a safe and healthy whelping. |
