| Pregnancy Weight? We got Molly this past weekend. Unfortunately her previous owners did not have her spayed so she has had a few litters of puppies, her last litter being in Oct/Nov. They also said that she is now "chunky" cause she still has pregnancy weight on her. They estimated her weight to now be 8ish lbs (previously 6lb)...She had been bred by a toy poodle. I don't know how much of that to believe b/c when my husband and I brought her home, we weighed her and she was 11lbs. I was just wondering what is the weight range that a yorkie can gain during pregnancy? I know its different each time. How long does it usually take for your yorkie to lose the weight and get back to pre-pregnancy weight? My husband I were talking and we were just curious... We do love our "chunker" though! I also wanted to add that she is a red-legged... I didn't know if that would make a difference. Thanks! Also, is there anything that I need to be doing differently with her versus a dog who has not just had a litter of puppies?

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. I just looked at the picture of Molly in your avatar and on your profile page. I don't think that any of her "chunky" weight (, she doesn't look chunky to me) is left over from being pg, but maybe more that she is just a slightly over standard sized yorkie. From what I see in the pictures, she reminds me alot of the female I had, Lexie Lexie1.jpg. She was a tall, lean, (and beautiful I might add), 10-11 lbs. I don't know/remember exactly how long they keep the pregnancy weight, but if she last had pups in Oct-Nov, I'd guess it would be gone by now. Lexie also had a litter of pups in Oct 2007; I'm pretty sure she didn't have any baby fat left in February. Anyway, Molly is a beauty and we hope to see more of the both of you here. Again............

I just want her to be healthy. The previous owner did say that she is now on a dry food only diet to help lose some of the weight (no soft food). She does have a belly on her haha but I kind of really like that about her lol Maybe he was just wrong on all of it... I guess we shall see. I didn't know how long it took for a dog to shed pregnancy weight so that's why I ran here!

| It sounds to me like they were just trying to make a sale. I know all dogs are different, but my mothers actually get on the thin side when nursing the puppies. I have to feed them continuously to keep their weight up. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | You might also just take her to your vet for a check up......maybe she is just a little over weight; which can be a big problem for little dogs. Lucky, one of my males, is just a little guy and his weight got up to 8 lbs last year. Our vet was a bit concerned having all that weight on his little legs & knees, as was I. But I am happy to say that he is now down in the 6 1/2-7 lb range and we can see the fruits of our labor. He is much more active than he was a year ago.
