My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Question on Multiple litters for Breeders I have never had more than one litter at one time. My girls have been nicely spaced apart. As we all know our girls tend to match their cycles up and mine choose to do that this time. So I will be having a couple litters at one time. My question to you is, if you had one room only to keep them, how do you keep yours? I have many ex pens BUT, no covers. And I don't know what to use as a cover that would make me feel safe to to leave the room. (you always hear about other mothers attacking another mothers babies - I WONT take that chance) So if anyone knows of a nice cover idea that would help too. With all my past litters the mom and babies got the whole nursey room. This time I will not be able to do that. I just don't know what to do. I don't ever use kennels ( I just have always been against them) but am thinking a may have to??? Advice PLEASE ??? I only want the best for my moms and babies along with the safest way for them. |

| I use the tall x-pens and I put sheets on the side to give the mommas more privacy. None of my mammas are jumpers so I don't worry about them going over the tall x-pens. The most stressful time is when the second litter comes. The first momma will hear those puppies crying and sometimes they will really get upset at first and they want to get to the other puppies. You just have to be extremely careful not to let the two mommas get to each others puppies. If your mommas know each other and got along before they had pups then they will probably adjust just fine. |

| My litters will be two days apart. I have the x-pen sset up for the girl that I know will have a big litter and a huge black wire crate for the one that only has one. They will both be in the same room. What is worrying me is when they get old enough to spend time with the family. I am going tobhave to be really careful about getting them mixed up. I have always had a litter ready to leave when the new one came so it is a new thing for me too. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I am worried about the same thing. All my girls can climb an xpen. Plus they all hate each other now and I am keeping them in separte rooms 24 hours a day.

| My friend who is a breeder uses outside plastic lattice from the home depot. She actually builds the whole nursery with this and uses plastic tags to hold everything together and then uses lattice on the top so no one can climb out. Since it is a little bit heavy no one can climb out but she can lift the top if she needs in. When she is done she just cuts the plastic tags off and can lay the lattice flat until she needs it again. She also cuts a hole out for Mom to come and go but it is high enough up that the little ones cannot climb out until she is ready to move them to an xpen.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I forgot to mention that 3 of the 4 expecting...are jumpers and can jump in and out of my expens. I have the ones from Toys R Us. I forgot to mention as well...when I use the word kennel...I mean that as a "crate". I always have called "crates" ....kennels. So I see some of you are in the same shoes. I had already planned on making sure they cant see eachother but I have not found anything yet that made me feel safe that I can put on top. |

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | I also had one spare room and set up a xpen actually one and a half, I put flannel sheets on all sides but one in case momma wanted to look out. I covered the topside that the whelping box was in just to give her a secluded area. I also use the plastic latice with the small holes. Hubby cut a bunch in different sizes, that way as the babies grew, I extended the area they could go little at a time so they wouldnt get lost. It was short at first so mama could jump back and forth, then as they grew I put a little stool on both sides so mama could get over but they couldnt. I was exhausted after they all went to their forever homes. It was fun but I didnt get to spend as much one on one with each puppy because I was jiggling back and forth trying to spend equal time. Good luck, Im sure youll do just fine. Probably fretting for nothing. |

| Breny, the ones I use are the wire x-pens, 36" tall. I got mine from Revival. They also have them 42" high and 48" high. Here is a picture of how mine are setup. You can't see the one on the right that well but you can get a general idea. I only have one female that would go over the 36" high pen and she is still a puppy. She would climb it like a ladder when she was just a few months old. I would had to hang a sheet over the x-pen so she could not climb out. Now she is a gate jumper. Nothing slows her down. She is the one in my avatar. |
