I also had one spare room and set up a xpen actually one and a half, I put flannel sheets on all sides but one in case momma wanted to look out. I covered the topside that the whelping box was in just to give her a secluded area. I also use the plastic latice with the small holes. Hubby cut a bunch in different sizes, that way as the babies grew, I extended the area they could go little at a time so they wouldnt get lost. It was short at first so mama could jump back and forth, then as they grew I put a little stool on both sides so mama could get over but they couldnt. I was exhausted after they all went to their forever homes. It was fun but I didnt get to spend as much one on one with each puppy because I was jiggling back and forth trying to spend equal time.
