Just a follow up to this thread and Fancypups.com. If you read my earlier posts in this thread I told about my experiences with Fancypups.com and told anyone looking to be very careful. A couple of people also asked if my baby girl, Lola, had been BAT at the time and she had not. My vet did not feel like she had any symptoms....well, we were supposed to have her spayed in March, so on 2/23/09 I had her BAT done. I got the results back on 2/25/09. She did have a shunt. I took her to University of Tennessee to have Dr. Tobias repair the shunt on 3/6/09. We are 9 weeks post op, she is doing great and we will have her retested in 4 weeks to see if this was the only shunt or if she has MVD. While with Dr. Tobias, she was also diagnosed with luxating patella in both back knees. I contacted Fancypups.com with all of this information and I have not received any response at all. There are too many reputable, good people out there...do not put yourself through this experience. I love my Lola more than anything and feel very fortunate and grateful that we were able to take care of her ~ and we will continue to...but I would stay away from these people.

I purchased two Yorkies in 2003 and 2004 from Jon and Jimmie Roscoe of Fancy Pups. I also thought it was a clean place and they were nice people. I believe now that they are brokers as well and it breaks my heart that I contributed to the puppy mill industry. The Roscoe's never represented themselves as the breeder and they gave me the breeder information. The 03 puppy was bred by Beatrice Birchfield and the 04 puppy was bred by Sue Hawkins. I googled their names and both came up on a website called Pet Shop Puppies.

Beatrice Birchield, a breeder in OKlahoma, came up with owning over 59 adult dogs and 13 puppies in 2009 which was down from 69 adult dogs in 2007. Complaints listed were from folks with differing breeds. The USDA has 2 inspections in pdf format where the breeder was found to be in compliant of USDA rules. http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=73A0531

Sue Hawkins, an unlicensed breeder, had only one complaint and it was that the buyer felt suspicious that the Roscoe's were not the breeder and didn't disclose they were brokers. This was not the case in my transaction with the Roscoes. They signed a contract with me that stated the breeders name. The contract also allowed for a two day return guarantee if the puppy's health did not check out. Ironically, my yorkie from Birchfield is my healthiest dog. The Hawkin's bred dog has been a vetrinary nightmare. I love her so much and have spent a fortune at the vet. She has pancreatits and horrible colitis. Now that she is older (6 y.o.), she's better but still suffers the occastional episode. As a young dog, every time she became afraid, her little nervous system would go into overload, she'd start shaking and then vomiting and diarrea would soon follow. Because she's so small, 4.8 lbs, she can dehydrate very quickly so I'd rush her to the vet. This was always a costly trip. To this day, no one is allowed to smack gum in my house because that triggers her nervous system disorders. She also had luxated patellas that we had operated on and repaired. We paid $1,075 for her and we've spent so much more than that over the past six years. But the hardest part is worrying about her every time we have an episode. It's emotionally exhausting!! I'm not certain if her problems are the result of bad breeding. I know people that purchased yorkies from reputable breeders and have the same sorts of problems.

The sires of both my yorkies have DNA#'s listed on their registration papers. I understand that DNA#'s are only issued for sires with high volume. I don't know that to be true though.

I just wanted to share these facts with you all!!

This is very disturbing to read about. My Boyfriend just bought me a puppy from fancypups.com last Friday. We named her Gracie and I became very attached.the first hours we had brought her home. She became very sick, wouldn't play or eat on her own.we went to 4 different vets and they all told us she was hypoglycemic and anaemic. Typical for tiny pups like Gracie. It became.so overwhelming so we called Jimmie and she was extremely helpful. She gave us many options and we finally decided to tale Gracie back so she could send her to her best friend who is a vet and nurse her back to health. Now we're just waiting for Gracie to get better so she can come back home. They were more than helpful and even though the contract gives u a 48 warranty they gladly stepped in to help our Gracie.

You can have a DNA done on any dog; however there are a certain number of times you can use a male as a stud without doing DNA. I believe it is 7 and then you receive info from AKC that you need to do the DNA for the frequently used sires.
