| Taking temperature help! Can someone please tell me how to take my female's temperature? She is due on Friday so I need to be prepared. I've never done it and have never seen it done before. I need to know how long to keep it inserted for a correct reading and any other info that might help me.

| I recommend the thermometers that are digital and they are wide a one end so you don't have to worry about the thermometer going too far in the rectum. I put a little ky-jell on the tip of the thermometer and insert in the rectum. It will go in probably about an inch. The digital thermometers will beep when the highest temperature is reached. It usually takes less than a minute. Be sure to hold the female firmly so she does not jump around. Best of luck to you. |

| You can also use vaseline on the thermometer. Have you read up on the delivery of the pups? |

I start out a week before the due date taking it morning and night to get a pattern, then once we are closer I take it 3 times a day. Once mine drop into the 98 degree mark...I have babies in 12 to 24 hours. | |

| This is the second time Lily has had puppies. I just never understood why it was important to take her temperature. She had her puppies on day 64 last time and everything went like clockwork. This time she is just so much bigger and she has been waking me up around 3 or 4 in the morning panting and crying the last two mornings, I thought I better try it to see how close she really is. Thanks for your responses, every piece of advice helps.
