I recommend the thermometers that are digital and they are wide a one end so you don't have to worry about the thermometer going too far in the rectum. I put a little ky-jell on the tip of the thermometer and insert in the rectum. It will go in probably about an inch. The digital thermometers will beep when the highest temperature is reached. It usually takes less than a minute. Be sure to hold the female firmly so she does not jump around. Best of luck to you.
