I use a digital and KY only. I was instructed by my vet to insert the lubed thermometer into the rectom all the way until it starts to widen to get an accurate temp. it does not hurt them , just make sure to use KY.
I start out a week before the due date taking it morning and night to get a pattern, then once we are closer I take it 3 times a day.
Once mine drop into the 98 degree mark...I have babies in 12 to 24 hours.
