| shampoo for yorkies hi everyone, i was wanting some input from other yorkie owners/breeders on shampoo/conditioners. i've recently purchased a product called "coat handlers" shampoo and conditioner. i've used it on a few puppies but not the adults yet; waiting on their scheduled groomings this month which is an all day event at my house, lol. anyway, has anyone used this product and if so, did you like it? i've been using the same shampoo/cond for a few yrs and it's called "petsilk" it's pricey but seemed to do a good job. i noticed that the coat handlers dilutes and even though you pay alot per gallon, you end up with like 4-5 gallons in the long run depending on how much you dilute. i want to find a product that will enhance my yorkies coats and also aid me in the comb out. i have 2 girls that matt really fast and it's time consuming, but i'm not willing to clip them down anymore. i did this with my girl, rio early this year, and i wanted to cry after it was done. i missed her hair so much!!! any info on shampoos/conditioners you all like will be greatly appreciated! i want to find one that really does a good job and stick with it. thanks! |

| The other day just on a whim I used my shampoo and conditioner on Gracie (Garnier Fructis Long and Strong) It made her hair SO soft for a long time, it is easy to brush through etc. It didn't seem to irritate her skin so i think it is okay....

| I'm still trying to find a good shampoo/conditioner for my guys. Andy and Barney have such soft cottony coats that you just look at them and their matted. I brush every day, but the boys play so rough that they're tangled in no time. I've used CC systems, Summerwinds, I do like Crown Royale, that's what I used to use a long time ago, and it seems to work the best for me on their hair. But today I tried just baby shampoo with the Crown Royale conditioner, (out of the CR shampoo) it looks good, we'll just see how long it lasts...

| are you talking about the shampoo that we use on our hair? if so, then wow! i have used that shampoo on my hair in past, being that my hair is color treated and i did like it. only thing is that i have been told by my groomer that shampoo for our hair has a different ph than shampoo for dogs and cats. but i dont take her word as the gospel it's trial and error for me, lol! but thanks for the info and i may try that myself on a couple of mine and see how i like it. i do love their haircolor that they make. as matter of fact, i need to do my ugly skunk roots now, lol lol which kind of that shampoo did you use specifically, as far as the small writing on the bottom of the bottles, like "for dry, damaged hair" or for "body" ect, ect. i am going to try it on one of my girls that has a really rugged coat. nothing seems to damage her coat, she's got hair of steel i think. but some of my other's have a more delicate silk coat. thanks for the info! |

YT Addict | I just use no tears babywash on my yorkies and what ever conditioner i'm using, for Princess and Sugar, Gidget and PeeWee have an oily texture to their hair so i don't use conditioner on them, just brush them regularly to keep from matting. Poor Princess got some mager mats aroud her teats in just a few weeks from the miolk and sucking, so I will be sure to watch for that from now on. I did get them all out. My daughter bought this wonderful dematter, that leaves the length in and gets the mats out. I was so thankful for it. |

| yes, i like petsilk also. but this new stuff i just got, "coat handlers" is new to me and i'm testing it out now. so far so good. but i will always have some petsilk conditioner on hand. i also got a good shampoo for puppies from petedge called "sungold", only reason i use it for pups is because it's tearless. |

| i still havent heard back from anyone who's used "coat handlers" if anyone has, please let me know....i've used several shampoos for the last few years such as: petsilk, fresh pet, regular baby shampoo, oatmeal, and silkote. all seem to do just fine and the fresh pet (from petedge) is what i use when they get into the dirt or mud outside because it really leaves a fresh scent for a good while. i recommend this to my customers sometimes that are going to be taking their babies out in the grass alot. and the oatmeal shampoo for my girl chelsea who has had some skin allergies in the past. silkote (from petedge) is a creme rinse i like to use on puppies. petsilk is my favorite conditioner so far. also i have used a detangler called glocoat. i really liked it at first. but when some of my yorkies coats started getting really really long, it didnt seem to do the job anymore. i have alot of it left over, so i use it on younger ones mostly with shorter coats. |

| coat handler i have used this product and it does do wonders for the coat also good for hot spots and repeling dust. i have been using mane and tail here lately and suave conditioner and that seems to be working good . i think sometimes just like people you gotta try something different every once in awhile to see a difference. but i do like the coat handler it is a little pricey but does dilut down. i cut my guys coats in the summer and let it grow in the winter . hope it works wonders for you. lynne

| to abbey: so you do like the mane and tail? gosh, we used that so much when i was growing up on my parents horses and my mom always said it was good for our hair too! i may just give that a try. i would have never thought to use it on my yorkies and now that i think about it, it would probably be a good thing to use on them. and it isn't real expensive, which i love! thanks so much for mentioning that because i haven't thought of that shampoo in years! |
