Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Is this dangerous? The vet showed me how to palpate the belly to count puppies. Is this dangerous to do? Could it hurt the puppies if done often? Thanks! Melissa

| It can kill puppies if squeezed to hard. Have to have a gentle hand. |

| yes it can be, just as the above poster said, you got to have a gentle hand. I dont even try it with yorkies, i just wait for other signs of pregnancy or an ultrasound. |

Assuming one knows what they are doing...gently palpating a bitch once at 28 days should be enough to determine if the bitch is pregnant. I personally can usually tell if a bitch is pregnant by 21 days. And by 28 days...most of the time...especially if it's a small litter...I can actually count the # of pups. As my mentor once told me...it's a gift.
