Both of the puppies are doing well, bigger one (2nd pup, I call her C2)) gained 0.7 oz, little one (1st pup, I call her C1) maintained at 2.5 oz, but she is quite strong.

I am taking both of them and mommy to the vet tomorrow to get check up and may be dewclaws and dock tail. I will post more pictures if they do.

They are sooooo cute!

Congrats and I am so glad your babies are doing well. I do want to say that neither I nor my vets will dock tails if the puppy does not weigh over 3 ounces. They can be very stressed and go downhill fast. Maybe give the tiny one another day to stabilize weight above 3 ounces...
But, if your vet does tails earlier, then you have to go with what he/she says. Good Luck..

Took them all to the Vet today, Vet said little one is small but has very strong heart beats, should be ok but still need to watch closely.

He did the tail the claws to the puppies, gave mom a "clean up" shot.

Couple of pictures with tail docked, resting in mom's arm after nursing....so cute....

I need some quick help before the take her to the vet. Candy start to have Diarrhea last night at about 9 pm, may be due to food changed.

She has been nursing the two puppies, but I have notice there is not milk anymore, when I try squeezed the teats, nothing come out, not like yesterday, you see lot of milk with little pressure.

Can someone tell me how to supplement the two puppies if I have to? Where to get the supplement? What brand, type? How much? How often?

Just want to have a quick post, my little girl gained 6g from date of birth and she is doing well.

It will be a week in a few hours from now, I just have to share couple of pictures with everyone, they are just adorabel!!!

My C2 (bigger one) gained 119g in a week, she was 127g at birth and is 258g just now.

My C1 (litter one) is still little, gained only 10g in a week, she was 70g at birth and is 80 just now.

I have to supplement them, because Candy does not have much milk, does anyone know anyway to increase milk produce for mom?

Did she get a Oxytocin (1/4 CC) shot 2 to 4 hours after delivery. I'd suggest whelping pudding. This helps the uterus contract and cleans mom out, it also assists in bringing down the milk.

1 Package unflavored knox geletin added to 16 oz warm to hot water.
1 12 oz can of evaporated milk
2 Tbs low fat vanilla yogurt.
2 Tbs Light Karo Syrup.
2. Egg yolks

Put in refrigerator to chill....feed mom about 1 Tablespoon a couple of times a day. This can be used when weaning puppies too.

Another thing that I feed to mom immediately after whelping is

1 12 oz can of Goats Milk
add equal parts of water
1 Tbs Karo Syrup
1 Egg Yolk

I put this into a covered container and shake very well before each serving....Keep refrigerated

Giving mom cottage cheese helps

Remember her milk only lets down every two hours.

She should be eating 4 or more small meals a day.....the above recipes I give in addition to her regular food during the whole time she's nursing.

If you're going to supplement, I'd use Just Born, since it has colistrum in it.

I am going to make them, quick question, do I have to cook the egg york or use raw egg?

2 days after delivery..mmmmmmmmmmm. Should have been given 2 to 4 hours after delivery.

With your past experience, what would be the average wt of puppies at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks?

From what I've read, newborns should normally double their birth weight after the first week...give or take a few. Your bigger one seems to be doing okay, but the smaller one hasn't gained much. Gaining anything IS better than losing, but I'd feel better if she started to gain more. Is she eating okay? Maybe you could supplement her more often.
I will say, Mardelin's whelping pudding recipie is great to use. I used it for my girl last year after she had her pups; added a little of it to every meal for as long as she was nursing. She loved it and she and her pups thrived!
