| Color/Ear Question? Hi everyone,im new to York talk and this is my 1st posting and i just have a few questions... Can you tell even from a young age(10 weeks)what color the coat will be and how it will grow? And what color is she,how can you tell the diff, ive read about it and seen tons of pictures of black/tan blue/gold yorkies but i can never distinguish them...i know this sounds stupid lol A little about me,Im a huge yorkie lover ever since i can remember. I have a 3year old chihuahua named Duckie :] shes an angel and we might purchase a yorkie pup before months end,and i already have my eye on a baby girl for sale in the area...but im wanting to know how she might look in the future. The breeder says shes 10weeks but her ears aren't upis this normal? would i just have to tape them...which isnt a problem btw...im just really curious what she will look like when shes past the puppy stages and her coat has grown in... This is her below:

| Welcome! She is so cute!!! it's totally normal for a puppy's ears to go up and down until they are done teething around 7 months. I never taped Layla's ears and they went up on their own. Generally you can tell what TYPE of coat they will have (silky or cottony) but taking a picture without a flash.. if the dog has "red eye" they will have a cotton coat if their eyes shine green it will be silky. There is NO way to tell coat color. Layla is 2.5 and still has her puppy colors (Black and tan). The best you can do is look at the parents' coloring but nothing is a guarantee. |

| Judging from the photo, I'd say she will keep a fairly dark coat. I say this because of the richness of the gold tones in her face. My experience has been that the richer golds usually indicate a darker coat color. You can also look at her back. Just push the hair back against the grain to see if there's any silver breaking yet. At 10 weeks, it may be a little early for that though. Generally, the more silver breaking on the back early means a lighter coat. Her ears should stand if the hair was trimmed. In the picture, you can see that they're 'boxing out' and not just hanging straight down so that's a good indicator they will stand. Some will stand without being trimmed but some need an early trimming to coax them to stand. |

| Well, she is just beautiful! You can look at their parent's coloring to get an idea, but there is really no guarantee at what the color she will be. But that's the fun part for me! Puppy's ears tend to lay when they are teething and since that are not laying totally flat, it looks like they will come up. Also you can trim the ears and it will take the weight off and that should help them go up. I always massage the ears at the base every time I hold them and trim and they always come up with no problem. Good luck with making your decision. Come back and let us know what you decided.
