| Who cries more? Who cries more you or your yorkie pup after a tail docking? Moms new litter had their tails and dew claws done today and Bless her heart she (Mom) took it very hard...She felt so bad to cause these little ones discomfort... How did you all handle it? |

| I dock my own puppy's tail and I remove their dewclaws. There is very little crying. Mom gets a bit stress out when I take the babies into the bathroom to do the job but most handle it pretty well. I think it is much more stressful when you take the babies to the vet to have them done. |

| I do the tails and dew claws...I time it so it's done during mom's regular exercise time outside....... The most I get is a squeek when the initial snip is done on the tail...

| Gosh I think I need to reword my question.... My human Mom's yorkie just had a litter of 6... They had their tails docked today and My Mom felt so bad for taking them in and having it done... I wasn't sure who cried more? The puppies or my mom.. Anyone else like this? |

| I did my pups Wed. morning. It stresses mom a bit but it probably stresses me more. I really dislike doing it but disliked taking them to the vet more. It won't bother me at all if they ever change the standard to allow full tails.

| Sad little puppies! You know, after going over to my mothers house last night to help get Millie and her pups to settle down after 12 hours of crying! I'm realy having second thoughts myself about having tails docked on any future litters. She had one little girl that just fussed and fussed which inturn got the rest fussing. Very long night for the puppies, Millie and my Mom...and very strong coffee for me today! My Molly has her tail and I like it. |

| I am curious as to how short the vet docked their tails? Were they docked to mid length? I always dock mine to mid length and many of my puppy buyer ask why the tails are so long. Many vets are docking the tails too short and I am beginning to wonder if that is why it is more painful for some puppies. My puppies cry very little after tail docking. I hope your babies are calmed down now. It can be stressful having fussy babies. |

So, far so good, I've had very lil fussing from my pups. As to who suffers more me or them.....well! I'm the breeder that goes into tears when my dam goes into labor...... As a exhibitor/breeder a pretty good rule of thumb is 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the tan....just where the tail begins to narrow. As a groomer...I've had so many yorkies obtained from BYBers that are brought to me to groom and I'm amazed at how incorrectly the tails are docked....most of the time too short.......a couple; if they'd gone any shorter the dog wouldn't have had serious problems.....any closer it's lil rectum would have been a gapping hole with no tail.
