Remember vet's don't go school to learn how to cut each individual breed's tails. It's up to you to tell them where you want it cut.
So, far so good, I've had very lil fussing from my pups.
As to who suffers more me or them.....well! I'm the breeder that goes into tears when my dam goes into labor......
As a exhibitor/breeder a pretty good rule of thumb is 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the tan....just where the tail begins to narrow.
As a groomer...I've had so many yorkies obtained from BYBers that are brought to me to groom and I'm amazed at how incorrectly the tails are docked....most of the time too short.......a couple; if they'd gone any shorter the dog wouldn't have had serious problems.....any closer it's lil rectum would have been a gapping hole with no tail.
