Dogs first time breeding Hi there. It is Tico's first time being bred. He is a 2 year old male. He gets the action right, but seems to have trouble knowing exactly what to do. Hence, the female gets tired of this, and just decides to lay down on the bed. Is there anything we can do to assist the dogs, or should they eventually just be able to figure it out on there own? Thanks for anyones help

How big is the male and female? If the female is a lot taller then the male might need something to stand on. You should not leave them alone when you are trying to breed them. You should sit on the floor and hold the female by the front shoulders while the male mounts her. Usually inexperienced males take awhile to get the hang of what they are doing. He may also knot up outside of the female. How long has the female been in heat?

could it be that the female isn't exactly ready for him? if it is his first time he will have a tendancy to wear himsself out trying. You probably should separate then for overnight or several hours then try it out again. And yes, you do have to be there so you can hold your female. he might be skiddish at letting you help since he is just learning. Believe me, he will get it right when it's time if there is no great size difference and he can reach her.
