I have found that generally when you ask for advice, you generally get it. Funny how that works...lol.

![]() She came on here asking for advice, it's a public forum therefore you're going to see responses like you have. If it were the fact that one of the dogs is a mixed breed, I'd say someone would've stated so - after all, it's happened plenty of times before. There's more concern in the area that the dogs aren't older and she doesn't have any experience, it's clear she has no idea what she's doing and I think she was given the best advice she could possibly be given. That's all! Have a GREAT day !

Someone with experience in oops matings should've just answered her ? and that was that. She came to us needing a sympathetic ear not to be bashed!!! I'm soo sorry this happened to you. Everyone I've run into has been very kind and helpful. You just got some people on a bad day, I Guess!!! Everyone , Please calm down and relax. Life's too short!!! BLESSINGS TO EVERYONE... JODI G.

![]() She asked a question and got honest opinions on how to best handle the situation, nothing more. Clearly not everyone is going to have the same opinion on what they feel is 'best' to do and not everyone has to agree. Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 09-09-2008 at 02:57 PM.

| I think this thread just needs to be closed. Someone came on here asking for advice on their situation and she was given JUST THAT. It's not mine or anyone else's fault if the advice she was given was advice that she or someone else doesn't want to hear.

| i would suggest Dog Breed Info Center®, DBI and Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. just a head up about a year ago i was on petfinders.com and they had a beautiful akc female someone gave up and she was $1000!!..its basically stated that her fee would help cover all the other sick yorkies in the shelters (which is understandable) ..and for other yorkie rescue groups the younger the pup the higher the price..some are 600 some are 450 and the senior pups are like $175..and i know they all need love but i dont want to bring home the senior because whose to say how long it has, the baggage it has and of course i have kids so they would never approve me. and you know when you are looking for something you never find it and the moment you stop or you buy it..poof there it is...i only saw a yorkie once in the local shelter here and it was gone in a matter of minutes because they have waiting list..pages and pages long for yorkies and other small breeds..so sometimes the best route is a breeder..im not saying what this poster is doing is right OR wrong ..just that not everyone likes the same cup of tea..know what i mean? she is too young...hopefully its a false..but there have been cases where younger females gave birth and they were ok..but sometimes the breeder is left doing all the hard work because she is too young and those instinks havent kicked in...just be prepared for bottlefeeding every couple of hours or holding mom down every couple of hours if she is pregnant...and had babies you can pm me...i wont pass any judgement (not that anyone has or meant to)..good luck!! |

| You have some things to get together..... Let us know if we can help as we have a few lists of needed supplies for whelping, ect.... I also might suggest light reading on the subject and would be glad to forward that information.... I'm a firm believer that what is done is done and to move forward with the preparations for puppies with lessons learned. I also know most of the breeders on this board always have the best interest of the dogs in mind.... It is a double edge sword in that we (as breeders) often see the alsolute worst that can happen and many of us have experienced those issues and would like to see others avoid those pitfalls if possible. Your female is quite young but can certainly carry and care for a litter with help. Instinct is an amazing vehicle that drives your dog. You will need to be vidgilent on learning as much as you can in the coming days and there are many here willing to pass along experience.... Please don't be afraid to ask as that is the only way to gain the vast welth of knowlege out there. The only stupid questions are the ones that go unaswered.... again, don't hesitate to ask for any information we might be able to provide... |

Why don't you start a thread with all the info in it. I know that it would be a very informative one!!! Maybe call it a refresher for all the seasoned breeders and GREAT education for all the up coming or new breeders here! Everyday is a good day to learn. Thanks! We ALL could use some info.

I think the criticism comes from the fact that the owner of the dogs said she did not want them bred yet, but did not keep an intact bitch in heat and an intact male separated, even though the male was obviously giving it a really good try at breeding the bitch. If the breeding does result in a pregnancy, it is not a responsible thing to allow a 9 month old puppy to whelp puppies. Just because she has a heat cycle does not mean she is ready to be bred. In domesticating dogs we have modified their behavior into that of a perpetual juvenile that takes longer to mature than a non-domesticated relative, but the biological cycle has not been modified to match that. Just as there are very few of us that would think it was a good idea for an 11 or 12 year old human to get pregnant even if she is ovulating, most of the breeders I know would not think a 9 month old puppy is ready to take on the role of mother. Personally, I won't breed a bitch for the first time until she is approximately 2.5 yrs old. I want her to enjoy her puppyhood first.
