Now if she had a dead pup would she act normal or would she be in pain? Just trying to give her all the info I can because it seems like she's following her vets diections.....and I just found out who her vet is and it is the worse of the worse places in our town. My coworker one day told me she wouldn't take a roach to be seen there. Thats how bad that place is.

Newborn size generally is not dependant on the size of the sire. Puppies grown to fit the room that is available to him, thus why singletons can be huge. They can also be quite small as one of my girls had because he was located extremely high in the uterine horn and was growing deep in her chest where there was not much space for him. In a litter, my first puppy is usually the biggest, because of its location lower in the abdomen where they had more room to grow. I wish that was not the case because I'd rather have the smaller, easier whelps come first! I also see this on the xrays, the puppies further up in mom are generally smaller than the lower ones...

As you can tell I know nothing about breeding. Never knew that. Thanks for the info though.

She could be acting normal. Only after she is filled with infection does she act sick. Several times I've had a female stop labor and start resting, feeding babies etc. Acting like everything is over, and yet I feel another baby in there. Just last week had a C-Section for the last pup because the female stopped her labor and acted like she was done. I took her in because I knew I felt another one in there.
My groomer lost a female in 48 hours due to the same thing. It happens a lot in Yorkies anyway.

Thanks for all he info everyone's given me. I got some more information today. Seems like the mom doesn't want to eat at all but is feeding the pup. My sis told me that the pup has a huge belly...could it be that he needs to be dewormed? I also found out that the reason she didn't or hasn't taken her to see a vet is because she doesn't have the money. I told my sis to have her friend offer her some boiled chicken and/or rice to see is she eats any. Also pick up a tube of nutrical. I feel bad for this fur girl but I'm so pissed that these people could breed her and not even be prepared. Okay I know you cannot stop anyone from breeding but at least be prepared financially if you decide to do it. She loves her dog to death and I can see that but I do not agree with what she's done.

She needs to take her temp. I use a digital thermometer with a little KY on the tip. Let me know if it's over 101.
