I did a search about poodles whelping and here is what I found from a vet:
The birthing process takes quite a while. The first stages of labor are long and slow. During this time the female is moving the puppies into position. Once active labor starts then things will really start to move (excuse the pun). You will notice the female starting to push hard. You may also notice that the tail pumps up and down. This is normal. All females differ in the birthing process. Some are quiet and reserved and go through it like a champ. Others are hyper and noisy and will scream when those puppies come out. How ever your female is this is normal. However if you go through more than 2 hours of heavy pushing with no puppies coming out and your female keeps getting more and more agitated or if labor just seems to stop, then immediately call your vet. Also if you see that there is more than 2-3 hours between puppies and your female is straining this is cause for concern and call your vet. A puppy could be lodged wrong in the female.

Wendy, I don't think you'll be sorry making this decision. Whether it will end up being absolutely necessary that you took her in or not, I say it's better to be safe than sorry. They say to go with your gut feeling....I'm not sure what yours was telling you, but mine was thinking it was time to take her in. Especially being an hour away.
And on that note, I think I will head up to bed. You can be sure that I will be checking this thread 1st thing, bright & early tomorrow morning (I'm usually up by 6am). I will be praying as my head hits the pillow that all goes well for little Zoe and her babies. Hugs & prayers.................

Oh my I left to play Bunko and thought sure that the puppies would be here when I got back! Gosh I'm sorry for Zoe to have to go so long! I wish you all the best!

This whelp hasn't gone normally for Zoe so I'm not sure. With none of us being there, it's hard to say. I've had times where it was an hour between seeing a bubble and the actual delivery. Two hours is a long time. I could only recommend what I said earlier about one more round with some manual lubrication if Zoe was up to it. Anything more would be risky advice and I couldn't give it, especially not being there. Probably the best thing is to pack her up. I sense the stress going up there and, if that's the case, Zoe may not be able to deliver. Also, with no x-ray, who can tell if one of the pups is presented correctly or not. She will have to keep an eye on Zoe while driving to the vet. Keep her out of a crate and keep a CLOSE eye on her. I really do hope for the best for her....it's been a rough night.

Your right...Sure seems as though Wendy and Zoe have had I rough go with things today. Just know that there are a lot of people out there thinking about you.... Hang in there!

Well it's 6:27am here and I'm back as promised. I prayed and prayed last night when I went to bed wishing good things for Zoe & her pups.
:( No news yet I see. :(

I am here and will check in - constantly - for word on last nights' trip to the vet.

Hey I found another bunko player! I've mentioned a few times about leaving or coming back from playing bunko, not knowing if anyone knew what it was. I play once a month with my 6 sisters, 2 SIL's, my mom, my niece, and the hostess finds a sub each month as we are 1 player short. It's alot of fun and we get alot of gabbing in while we play catching up on each others goings on.

It's been a short night for all of us but especially Zoe and her momma. I have kept the prayers going also for a wonderful birthing process with no complications.

All of you that have assisted her - KUDDOS TO YOU!!!:D I know she appreciates you as all of us that are not going through it do also.

Just catching up on the thread, I was following behind the scenes last night! I hope Zoe had those puppies during the night and that the vet visit went okay. Please keep us updated!! ;)

Maybe after such a stressful day yesterday and night, and even the past few days of anxious anticipation, Wendy is getting some much needed rest. But then again, if there are new puppies-finally, I don't think I'd be able to sleep very well at first.

Wendy please, just pop on for a moment and give us an update.

Hey guys...first off let me say Thank you to all of you that helped, prayed and checked in with us. It has been an exhausting night. Zoe is doing fine. She had to have an emergency c-section in which I opted to have her fixed. She had two puppies that were in a bad position in the birth canal. Unfortunatly the puppies had weak little heartbeats and the doctor was unable to revive them. I am so sad that I put my little baby through this and all for nothing. But I am so glad that she is going to be okay. She will stay in the hospital tonight. Dr. said she was very weak and sore.

Thanks again to all of you that waited and worried with me. I know Zoe felt the love from all of you cause it sure helped me out.

Aww, I am so sorry. I recently lost an entire litter and know how painful it can be. The good thing is that Zoe is doing well and that you acted fast enough to ensure her health. Zoe may be a bit sad for the next few days, as I sure you are too. Hang in there. Zoe will bounce back and will be back to her normal self shortly.

Oh Wendy, I am so sorry to hear that! I am glad you took her in though. That is what I was afraid of with her pushing for so long. Anytime they are actively pushing for that long, I would worry about a stuck puppy or two in the birth canal at one time. I know you will be glad to get her home and give her lots of love. Again, I am so sorry it turned out this way.
