I have never had to do it, but my understanding of feathering is when contractions stop between puppies, feathering can help get them going again.

yes...but my breeder also told be that if you thing that a pup is stuck or that she is not opening wide enough that fingering can help "stretch things out a bit.....just do it gently

My concern Wendy is that she has been pushing hard for quite a while and you don't see anything coming out. It is always possible that 2 puppies are trying to come out at one time and are jamming up the opening. because of that possibility, I would try to find a vet.

That could be true, but I don't know enough about feathering for me to advise her to try it.

He says give her another 2 hours of pushing...if nothing then, to bring her in. He said up to 4 hours of pushing can be okay..lets hope it doenst go that long

4 hours?? does he have any experience with yorkies? I have never ever heard a vet say 4 hours of pushing.

Was this the vet that your not too keen on or an emergency vet? I would call them back and ask if they are familiar with small breed dogs like yorkies

Oh I'm sorry, I guess I never clarified...Zoe is a toy poodle bred with a yorkie...They are the two in my avatar pic.

Thats how long he said after he found out her breed...so maybe they can go longer than yorkies. She is 7 lbs and she was bred with a yorkie 4 lbs.

I know cross breeding is frowned upon... I would never water down a yorkie...i just wanted some yorkie with my Zoe Ann...

Ya know.. now isn't the time to worry about cross breeding.. poodle, yorkie.. sheepdog.. it doesn't matter.. right now I am concerned about zoe. Her size is still a toy and I would worry about letting her wear herself out pushing

We had some storms move through and I lost my connection. Seems like the stress has thrown Zoe off her timing. The liquid she expressed earlier should have lubricated her for the delivery. She may be a bit 'dry' now. Do you have any KY jelly or something you can manually lubricate her with? I've never had to do it but she's gone a long time with hard contractions and she may be out of her natural lubricant.

Well I still say don't wait any longer........take her in. Remember, you said yourself the vet wasn't worth a dime. And if this place you need to take her to is an hour away, you have no time to lose. Yorkie, Poodle, yorkie-poo; a small dog is a small dog no matter what the breed. Yorkies can be 7 lbs too.
Zoe's been pushing since you got home and probably some before that too. It's been far to long with no pups.
JMO. I'd take her in.

Okay I'm back. I had a long walk with Doo Doo as she didn't want to do her buisness. Sunnie I fed the pups some moist kibbles, cleaned the bathroom floor and put down some newspaper. They had a good meal then I put Doo Doo in their with them, I think she only nursed them for a few minutes. They are all sleeping now:) with full tummies:wink:
Zoe I hope you have these pups soon, it's about 9:30 in Las vegas and hubby wants me to come to bed. I don't want to miss this. I'm keeping my daughter up as an excuse:p Go Zoe Go........

Glad to see you here. Could use your experienced opinion. Zoe has been pushing for better than 2 hours with no puppy yet. The vet told her she could go for 4 hours before bringing her in. Now I have always been told no pushing longer than 2 hours.. what do you think? I really think she should get going to the vet.. especially since the vet is an hour away.

Okay...We are gonna go...may get a puppy in the car on the way? I'm taking my stuff with me just in case. I don't know if my battery would hold up..so I will update you guys as soon as I get back...thanks for all the help...you guys have helped us so much!!!!

Boy, it's a tough call. If she packs her up, it'll only cause more stress to Zoe and will just about guarantee a c-section if one's not needed already. Is the sister sure she saw a bubble? I wouldn't be so worried unless she was sure of a bubble some time ago. If Zoe's up for another round of contractions, I would try one last effort but also lubricate her. If she's worn out, it may just be time to pack her up.

well she had some ice cream a min ago, gobbled it down like it was pure heaven....and now she seems like she is able to push some more, but I don't want her to get tooo tired.

I'm gonna get ready and in the meantime see if she does some more pushing...if nothing by the time we get ready, then we will leave with her

how does that sound?
