I usually breed my females on their second heat unless their first heat comes really early. Mine are usually around 16 to 18 months when I breed them. Some people advise waiting until they are age two. Also you need to consider the size of the bitch. A 5 lb bitch might need a little more time to mature.

This is my first litter of yorkies. I have bred german shepherds in the past but this is so totally different. I really can't even tell for sure if Lily is pg. If she is it's between the 25th & 33rd day, I think it's too early for an ultrasound.

Yes, it is a little early. You should know something in about a week. Good luck with your first yorkie litter. Where in Texas are you?

I live about 50 miles northwest of Beaumont. Momma and babies are doing great. I will be docking tails and removing dewclaws this afternoon. I know momma won't like that.

The storms just circled all around us all day but it rained very little here. It was nice and breezy. I know north of us people lost electricity and they said it would be off for about 36 hours. How was it at your home? I heard parts of Houston and Galveston got 3 inches of rain.

It gave us much needed rain I hope Dallas gets some of it. So I guess by now you have that docking done. I have never docked or removed dew claws. I have been reading up on it but I think I'll watch and learn a few times before I give it a try. How long can I wait after they are born to do it?

My Anna who is 5 1/2 lbs. just had her puppies August 5. She had 2 boys & 3 girls. Very fast in 1 1/2 hours, all seem to be doing really well. What a good mama. Their all under 3 ozs. & they look like 5 little mice. I'm in love with all of them. Way to go Anna.
