I do suggest you weigh the pros and cons of possinbly losing your female during a whelp. Not sure how big she is but with small dogs a c-section or a possible loss is always a consideration. Good luck in whatever you choose.

| When my females are not pregnant they are indifferent, BUT when they are in heat and pregnant they are soooooo loving. I like them much more!!! LOL Then when they have babies they go back to their usual indifferent selves!!! |

| When they have pups yes they get really protective. That does fad as the pups get older. They are usually back to their normal selves by weaning! |

I find my female has times the younger dogs in my house had better not get too close or she will bite them, she will growl at them etc. She never does this with my children. If my children are arguing she will get right inbetween them as if to let you know no one is going to get hurt on her watch. She has been great with her pups, she has had her moments were I had to put her in with her pups. The only indifferent behavior I found she exhibited was voiding on the floor, and pooping on my husbands side of the bed, within the first 1-3 weeks after whelping. | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | From what I've read you get more personality changes in a male dog after breeding, but a female dog does have tremendous physical changes, and is much more prone to mammary cancer and pyometra. Here's an interesting link if you are thinking about breeding. Breeding Your Dog Oh, and welcome to YorkieTalk!
