| Bentley my first PUP larger Yorkie (help) I have every Yorkie book and I am still learning. I am angry with myself because though I read much on breeding, about using two Yorkies within the standards and the AKC standards, "but somewhere after all those vet bills... and testing I must have missed an very important Genetic test"... I even have 4 breeding books.. I am really feeling down, because I have decided to sell her with limited rights, because I don't want anyone to breed her because she is 10lbs and that is above the standard. I have to go back to the book basics and fine a mentor...but Bentley is the sweetest Yorkie out of the bunch... I have mixed emotions on what to do...have her spayed or sell her to one of the ladies who really wants a Yorkie but cant afford those high prices, and given the circustances...I know she would provide a good home.... I sold Oscar to her daughter....to be fair. What should be a fair price to sell Bentley for if, I approve of the people or to her. If I cant find her a good home. Here is where she will stay... Bull I am really feeling like I messed up...Everyone is in love with their pups they were all small and within standard I should say... but Bentley 10 lbs... They are really nice pet quality pets with the sweetest temperments, playful...everything I wanted.... the lap pampered pooch... all of that.. It was the best feeling in the world having my puppies... I felt so loved and needed... I didnt earn not one cent...so No it sure isn't about money...still spending... 1. Would you sell her and what would you sell her for? Or would you give her away...I think my Co-worker may be a little upset after they paid a fair price for the other...?

| I hurt for you that you feel so badly about this You can control genetics only to a limited extent, and that applies to any animal, even humans. You don't have a defective dog just because she's larger than breed standard. I know many breeders who breed for breed standard, but occasionally come up with pups too large or small for breeding. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong...you just had a recessive pop up. A lot of people would treasure a dog like Bentley. The ones of that size tend not to have the health issues that the tiny ones do. Most people don't want to breed anyway. If I were you, I'd have her spayed, then sell her as an altered female pet for whatever price you're comfortable. You can sell her with limited rights, or withhold papers until proof of spaying, but I'm not a fan of that. If you're adamant about not wanting her bred, you have to have her spayed yourself to be sure of that. You have no control over it once you let her go, and the buyer would still be able to register her with many of the registries other than the AKC. Best wishes, and chin up. She'll make some deserving person a wonderful companion! |

| Before I send a retired female home they have a vet checkup, are spayed, have a teeth cleaning if necessary and sold for enough to cover those expenses...I am sure you will find a perfect home for her!... You are doing the right thing and eventually you will get your breeding program where you want it...You have to be willing to pull dogs from the breeding program to accomplish this...Good Luck!

| breeding First of all, never discuss the prices you ask with your co-workers, unless they are interested in buying a puppy. People ask me all the time how much my puppies are...I tell them, when and if I have one, I will discuss the price at THAT time..and alot depends on the puppy or adult, my mood, which way the wind is blowing..and frankly who might have ticked me off lately! I would do what you feel most comfortable doing...asking for the price of spaying/dental is more then fair for a 10 pound adult...if your co-worker finds out you are letting her go at a reduced price..tell her next time you have a "cheaper" companion, you will be happy to let her know... |

| Thank you... I feel better. I spoke to my daughter about it and we both agree, she is the sweetest lady... she has to be in my lap and the others have to move when Bentley enters the room... The girls would miss her... So I made the offer to the lady before I spoke with you wonderful people. So, I will sit and wait, I have to be a lady of my word. If she doesn't take Bentley with all I understand, I will have her spayed and keep her here happy... "the little boss lady".... I will continue to research and try to be more careful... thank you all for being so kind and sharing your wealth of knowledge with me. Thanks...

| Just because she is a little larger doesn't mean you did anything wrong. I have four babies. Two are around 3.0 lbs on good days, the other is around 3.6 lbs, but my love bug is probably 6.0 lbs now and still growing. He is my buddy. I love them all so much, but he can do so much that I am afraid to let my little ones do. Your baby will make someone a perfect baby to love I just know it. |
