I hurt for you that you feel so badly about this You can control genetics only to a limited extent, and that applies to any animal, even humans. You don't have a defective dog just because she's larger than breed standard. I know many breeders who breed for breed standard, but occasionally come up with pups too large or small for breeding. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong...you just had a recessive pop up.
A lot of people would treasure a dog like Bentley. The ones of that size tend not to have the health issues that the tiny ones do. Most people don't want to breed anyway. If I were you, I'd have her spayed, then sell her as an altered female pet for whatever price you're comfortable. You can sell her with limited rights, or withhold papers until proof of spaying, but I'm not a fan of that. If you're adamant about not wanting her bred, you have to have her spayed yourself to be sure of that. You have no control over it once you let her go, and the buyer would still be able to register her with many of the registries other than the AKC.
Best wishes, and chin up. She'll make some deserving person a wonderful companion! |
