| What?! Going into heat 2 1/2 weeks after whelping? I feel like a complete idiot, but I had NO intentions of having puppies in the first place and plan on getting Quinn spayed BEFORE it could happen again. Little background: Quinn had 4 puppies on 6/8. They were unplanned, and we are getting her spayed ASAP. But now she is swollen and there is slight bloody discharge! Just like last time! Is it possible for her to go in to heat this fast? Now I am afraid she has some sort of infection- she threw up her food a couple of times BUT she did that when she went in to heat last time too. Its been approx. 11 1/2 weeks since she came in to heat last, counting her time preg. She is going to the vet tomorrow. Our reg vet is out of town on vacation, but I guess she will just have to see someone else. If she is in heat, will this mess with nursing her puppies? or anything? |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I HIGHLY doubt that she's back in heat. Females will continue to discharge for a couple of weeks after whelping. Sounds to me like her uterus is still cleaning itself.

| She wasn't bleeding or having any kind of dischage before now. That all stopped about 5 days after the puppies were born. She is also VERY swollen, but it is not hot or tender. |

| NO infection!! According to the vet she is healthy and the discharge is probably just left over from whelping. He thought she might have strained or played extra hard and that is what caused it. HOWEVER, since she does look a little swollen, I should watch her for more discharge or further swelling (he showed me what to watch for) and that it IS possible for her to go back in to heat this soon. Not likely, but he has seen it before. |
