If you take her for an x-ray then you can know for sure if she is pregnant or if it is a false pregnancy. |

(This stage often goes un-noticed, and takes place in the 24 hours following temperature drop) Temperature FINALLY drops to 98°F from its normal 99,100,101°F (you should have been taking it regularly for a few days) If you are really committed, the temperature taking does work. You will find her temperature around 99 to 101, and as soon as it starts to drop, below 99, and continues to drop. (now you take it every hour or two) ;you have about 12-24 hours from the start of the drop. When it bottoms out, to 98 or 97.9, then you have about 2-12 hours. You may find your dam much more restless, and not able to get comfortable. She will stretch out on her side. You may find her eyes different, they can dilate, and she can stare at you. She may not want you out of her site. She may go to her whelp box. She may vomit. She may try to have a bowel movement from the pressure. She may urinate frequent. She will refuse to eat, and seek a quite spot, like a closet or under a bed. She may have some mucus discharge, and her Vulva area will become puffier. The normal body temperature for animals is generally higher than for humans. The normal rectal temperature of a dog is 99.5° to 102.5°F. The normal temperature of a puppy at birth is 96-97°F. The temperature gradually increases with age until it is 100°F at 4 weeks of age. Second Stage of Labor: Your female may go to her whelp box, or couch, or wherever she has chosen to have her pups, & start digging. She may start shivering and Panting, examining her rear, and licking her vulva. She may have mild contractions, vomiting, pooping and urinating more. Warning Signs: Twitching, green discharge. (Green discharge is only Normal AFTER a pup is born) At the first sign of a contraction, give her some calcium. Offer her vanilla Ice cream, or chew a tum and spit in her mouth, or use Calsorb This info is from dogbreedinfo.com |

Well, I was right. Sher had a false pregnancy. I guess I was wishing hard when I thought I felt one.:( Dixie is fine though...she hasn't acted any different. Still digs and nests...but nothing more. Oh well...everything happens for a reason I suppose.:( |

I am so sorry. I know how disappointed you must be. :( |
Tootsie had her puppies today. I had a feeling that she would have her puppies early. Her first due date was suppose to be next Tues., but when my daughter let all the yorkies outside today. I told her to bring the mama in, as I didn't want her outside for to long with the other yorkies. Well less than 5 minutes of coming in the house she had her first puppy. A fast delivery, 2 girls & 2 boys. All seems well mama & her puppies. I am soooo happy. Way to go Tootsie. Nice surprise. Easy delivery for mama. |
Congrats ! Do you have any pictures? I would love to see your babies! |
No pics yet. I'll take some pics this week for everyone to see. Mama needs her pit shot today, so I don't think she wants them taken today. |

Thanks, The puppies weigh 2 oz. to 2 1/2 oz. Tootsie had all four pups in a little over an hour. A pit shot is a shot the mama gets to clean out her uterus after delivering puppies, to help avoid infections. Which has to be done within 24 hours of delivery. So mama feels contractions, as if she was going to deliver again. So mama was a little crampy & tired from the whole ordeal. She's such a good mama. I am very proud of her. She' such a little cutie. The puppies are soooo precious. |
We Are Going To Have Puppies Tooooooooooo Nite!!! |
we have puppies!! My little girl had her puppies last nite - 5 days early! This was her first litter and pups were just under 3 oz, 4.2 and 4.9. All boys.... the larger looks good and is nursing well, the other two need help attaching, but are strong and trying!! Their skin is very thin and are definitely premmies... but I've got 3 little fighters and am keeping my fingers crossed. Wish us all luck. MOM is doing great - like she's done this a dozen times. = ) |
Congrats! Do you have any pics? Also are you supplementing the week babies? |
No pictures yet. Yes I am, but trying to do so after he has nursed for a bit. It is a challenge getting him to "latch", but when he does I hold momma still and let him get as much as he can (strengthen his muscles and get that colostrum!) then I give him some supplement. Thank you for asking and recommending this. I appreciate any assistance offered. I'm happy and so very anxious at the same time. Thinking positive thots and praying that the little boys stay strong! |
I know it must be worrying, but keep on thinking positive. I am saying a prayer right now that those furbabies stay strong and grow to be healthy. I know you probably know this, but make sure you are weighing them to chart their growth. If the little one is having latching problems, you may wind up syringe/tube feeding him. I know there are breeders on here that can tell you how to do this if you aren't sure. Keep me posted. |
