| Curious questions about the daddy.... I'm just really curious...what is the dad's reaction to the puppies? Does he know that these are his "kids"? |

| I really don't know the answer but my guess would be no. I never let my males around the puppies until the puppies are close to 12 weeks and even then it is under close supervision. My males usually don't want anything to do with the puppies and they usually just run from them. |

| Peppee was scared at first..or at least he acted like he was. He now seems to have really taken to the one boy...he lets him "play" with him. It is too cute!

| Brownie didn't want anything to do with his kids when they were young. Now I find him playing with them all the time.

| Yes, males can be aggressive toward puppies. I know one lady who's male killed young puppies that were around 3 or 4 months old. My males snap at the puppies to make them stay away so as a generally rule I never let the puppies around the males until they are older. Female dogs generally are good around puppies but there can be a situation where one female might try to steal a newborn from it's momma and the two females could get in a fight over the puppies and the puppies could get killed. One of my concerns when letting puppies around adults is that some adults tend to play too rough so you really have to be careful who you let near the puppies. Some females will also really snap at puppies because newly weaned puppies will try to nurse any female and that can get them into trouble. Last edited by bjh; 06-09-2008 at 03:15 AM. |

| dad's Males are clueless as to their puppies...I have rarely had a stud who wanted to be near a new mom and her litter..but as the puppies grew, they were curious and often played with them...most were fairly gentle and tolerated puppies..I never leave any puppies with adults without supervision. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | After Gellica had her babies, I brought Shadow (the father) in to see them. He gave kisses to Gellica, but couldn't care less about the puppies. In fact, after the first day, she didn't want him near the puppies either. Now, the puppies are 7 months old, and Shadow is just starting to like them! I don't think they have that instinct like the females do. I doubt he knows that they are his puppies.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I really think Jazzy knew he was the Daddy. When Jinny would leave her pups Jazzy would go and lay with them and gaurd them form my other dogs. It was really sweet to watch.
