Unexpected babiesPlease help

She carries the puppy in her mouth and takes him all over the house,I don't know if it is because she misses her owners and wants to go home, today is the third day she spends here, her owners come for her in the afternoon.I afraid she is going to drop the baby on the floor and I do not have carpet.

I think it is because the mom and baby are being moved everyday like this.. for the first three weeks at least the mom and baby should stay in your house. they do not like to be moved around when they have babies..my girl that had babies this past monday night gets upset when I chang the bedding .. it takes a bit for her to say ok mom I will get in and snuggle in again..so you need to talk to your friend.. if she gets too upset and refuses to feed the baby then it is tube feeding every two hours to keep that little guy alive.. I have done that tube feeding and I want to tell you it is not a pleasure.. It is so hard to get up every night in the night every two hours and function in the day time.. we had to do it for two weeks.. and that was hard.. please do not get mommy upset.. I will answer any of your questions to the best that I know.. others might have a different idea of what to do..

Oh, Don't let her do that! Keep them in a small room. She could hurt him by doing that. I'm sure its because she is not in her home and she is moving him to where she wants him, but I would seclude them in a small room, even the bathroom so she cant' do that.

Do you have a childs playpen??? You could put them in there and make sure she doesn't jump out (cover it)

Do they bring her bed when she comes to you? She needs to find a place at your house where she can relax. It is stressful for her to be trying to move the baby around. Also hard on the puppy. Make her a little den where it is quiet and private so she can settle down.

Absolutely get the whelping pudding recipe and make it. Mom's love it and it is just the pick-me-up they need for nursing. Good quality puppy kibble (I use Royal Canin too), boiled or grilled chicken breasts, cottage cheese and maybe some chicken broth. Hand feed her, start with the chicken and get her interested in the kibble mixture. Put Karo syrup, just a teaspoon, in her water and mix it up. This gives energy too and makes her more likely to keep drinking enough water. Good luck.

They have a secluded place and I made a nice bed for her with one of those plastic under bed storage boxes with towels and the electric heating pad, they go home in that same box, it's just the moving from house to house what has her like that

Oh, now that you mentioned it, I've been changing her towels for clean ones everyday, I guess that also added to her stress, poor little girl.

Changing bedding should not matter.. I have changed kandies a few times in two days.. I like to have clean one's.. but it just could be every little thing happening to her that is adding up.. I have never heard of a new baby being transported every day like that.. we will go away as we have to go out of town to the doctor.. so will visit our daughter and grandson's at the same time..but babies will be 3 weeks old and will be in the motorhome going and we stay in there when we get there.. and gee I am worried sick about that already.. but our doctor is 3 hours away.. so it takes a whole day and we make the appointments so far in advance.. we cannot cancel them..
But three weeks is not a bad age.. I would cancel if any younger then that..

I know, and feel the same way, but her owners go to work and don't get home until late afternoon, I live 1/2 block away from them and I'm the grandmother, so I rather have them both over and look after them, until the baby is a little bit older, I would gladly keep them here for a while but I understand the miss their girl.This long weekend they are leaving for the keys, and will be taking mom and baby with them, so at this point the baby has more miles than hours after birth.

Oh Wow. Any chance they would leave her with you? Mom could get so stressed out that she could lose her milk. Keeping her nutrition and hydration up are a lot of work on the road. I know, I've traveled with mine at 3 weeks also. It was way more than I thought it would be, and hard on everyone. Don't they understand this is a living being that needs to be cared for.... sorry just a little frustrating that people are so cavalier about these little helpless guys.

Do your best to talk them out of taking the puppy. Its time they acted like grown ups.

I wouldn't suggest taking the mom and baby on a vacation. My babies don't even go out of the house (just to the vet) OR have people see them until they have their vaccines at 8-9 weeks old.

I feel for you, I know its out of your hands Maybe suggest to them??

What a big heart you have to help with this little guy......although I dont breed, I know how stress effects the body, and mother's milk.....that would be very detrimental to the puppy if he cannot get milk......and fatal if found out to late......

Thank you all, and no,I would not take any comments in a wrong way, or personal, I know everybody is trying to help.I'm very fortunate to have found YT and all of you, so to keep you ladies in your toes..here goes my question of the day, latching on has become an understatement, now he holds on sucking so hard that I can hear him, I know she has milk because I can see the milk in his mouth, but just wont let go, how long can I keep nursing? If it was up to him, he will drinking all day!wait until you see the new pictures, puppy smell is the best
