My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | ![]() Does anyone know if you ship a pup after 12 weeks old if they are required to have a rabies shot??? I thought I read that somewhere. Is that even safe for a pup so young? Have anyone shipped a pup after 12 weeks old? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks! |

| ![]() I have shipped puppies that were 12 weeks plus and always have to get a rabies shot. I get the shot several days before sending the puppy so I can monitor the reaction, and I make sure there are at least a few days between the rabies and the third DHPP so the immune system has time to recover. You may also want to give Albon, or Albon/Metro compound for a few days to help prepare them for the stress of the shipping. I also mix Dyne with water and freeze the water bowl ahead of time in the deep feeze. This will help in keeping the nutrition level during transit. Hope this helps! ![]() |

| ![]() On my twelve weeks old, tghe vet writes "too young" in that space but 14 weeks and over it is required. As the above poster mentioned it is best to get the shot a few days ahead. BUT remember your vet certificate is only good for eight days. Might be ten I can't remember for sure. Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 05-11-2008 at 07:30 AM. |

| ![]() Continental will go by your vet's recommendation. As long as the vet signs the health certificate they are good to go. When I talked to them on the phone, they said they only need rabies if the vet thinks they are old enough. Which is good because our vet will not give rabies until they are their adult weight.

| ![]() Pups three months and under do not need a Rabies shot or health certicicate to fly. Rabies shots should never be given befor they are at least four months old. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | ![]() Thanks everyone. I've shipped pups before. I just never had to do a rabies vaccine because they were not after 12 weeks old. I just can't imagine giving a 12 week old pup a rabies vaccination. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | ![]() Zoey was shipped at almost 5 months and her rabies were not required. Her other shots had to be up to date and she had to have the health cert from the vet but not her rabies at all.
