This is amusing, you defend a breeder and by doing so revive a thread that clearly puts your breeder in a bad light. If you're trying to protect her reputation, bringing this thread to the surface is not the best way to achieve your goal, after all most of what's been posted isn't complimentary.

That says it all. When I see someone listed as USDS I just plain feel SORRY for the dogs. No one can tell me how much these so called breeders CARE because if they did - they wouldn't be listed as a puppy mill.

Checking the USDA "puppymill" list to make sure a breeder's name isn't on it is one of the first things you are supposed to do when researching a breeder!

My husband purchased a dog as a surprise for me, from a pet store, last year- huge no no in the dog world- I know. But once the purchase was made, there wasn't much to be done- besides looking into the dogs background. I'm currently doing some extensive research on The Hickory Inn Kennel. I know this breeder is on the USDA list, which is already not a good sign. However, my research is delving into a realm far beyond internet access. Once I have some more facts I will report back.

On another note- I'm looking into purchasing another yorkie. I have been in contact with a breeder- Douglas & Sharon Andrew who operate d&s kennel. Their website is www.littlepups.net. They too- are on the USDA list. However, they don't seem to fit the stereotypical facility. Any comments? What do you guys think?

I wouldn't buy a puppy from them. What about them makes you think they are different and not a puppymill? They are a USDA breeder, that means commercial breeder, which is essentially a puppymill! They breed Yorkies, Maltese and Chihuahuas, probably the 3 most popular toy breeds....they breed these because of all the money to be made. They exploit innocent animals to make their living.

This area of Okla. has many puppymills and horrible byb's. Please look elsewhere for you next yorkie or any puppy!

The fact they are USDA licensed is reason enough to not buy from them, IMO.
I'm not sure what you mean by not being the stereotypical facility, here is what they have in an ad for their puppies:

"Our dogs are kept in clean, climate controled facilities with free access to
outside gravel runs, for plenty of fresh air and exercise. We socialize our pups
so they will be well adapted to their new enviornment."

WOW, access to outside gravel runs, lucky dogs!

OH and the misspellings are in their ad!

What type of license should I look for vs. USDA? Thanks for the info- I'll look elsewhere. It just seemed their litters were few and far between... unlike other kennels who crank out puppies every other day. Their photos also make it seem as though the puppies are in a nice environment- maybe that's decieving. I just wish they posted photos of the parents as well. Thanks again

I would suggest checking the YTCA.org website for breeder referrals.
Also if you go to the "Yorkies for sale or wanted" forum here, at the top there are some good threads of what to look and not look for in selecting a breeder!

I would personally NEVER buy a dog from anyone that is USDA licensed!!
If they are USDA licensed, this is a business typically, so I doubt their litters are few and far between. In fact they list on their FAQ they have litters throughout the year and post them at between 7-9 weeks!

Yorkies should go home around 12 weeks!

The puppies live in kennels, that is not a nice environment in my opinion! I want to buy from a breeder who loves her animals and they live in their home and are pets, socialized, etc... JMO

Also- according to recent USDA inspections she had over 100 adult dogs in her "inventory" and more than 60 puppies.

HELLO tammy i have a yorkie thatcame from you and i have read on here that you dnt sell to pet stores but today i was in a petland and saw biewers wich i have also . the biewer i saw was 11 weeks old and was sick, would you reply to this thanks.....
